For acute gonococcal urethritis, this medication (3g) can be administered with probenecid (1g) in a single combined dose.

Precautions

This medication acts by binding to specific proteins, disrupting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, thereby killing the bacteria. Before using this drug, it is necessary to confirm whether a history of allergic reactions to this drug or cephalosporin antibiotics exists. Additionally, since it contains lactose, it should not be used in patients with hereditary conditions such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Caution should be exercised in patients with a history of allergies to penicillin antibiotics or who are prone to allergic reactions such as asthma, rash, or urticaria. In patients with severely impaired kidney function, those unable to take it orally, elderly patients, or patients in poor general condition, it is important to carefully monitor for vitamin K deficiency symptoms while administering this drug. This medication can rarely cause serious allergic reactions or skin diseases, blood abnormalities, liver and kidney dysfunction, digestive problems, respiratory issues, or neurological symptoms; if abnormal symptoms occur, usage should be immediately discontinued, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Moreover, when using this drug, it is important to perform sensitivity tests and administer it for only the minimum required duration to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria. This drug may interact with other medications, so special caution is required when used with probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs, diuretics, anticoagulants, oral contraceptives, and certain antibiotics. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication cautiously if necessary, and breastfeeding women should also be careful since it is excreted in breast milk in small amounts. It is advisable not to use this medication in neonates under one month of age as safety and effectiveness have not been established. When administering this drug to elderly patients, the risk of adverse reactions may be higher due to physiological decline, so dosage and intervals should be adjusted, and careful monitoring is necessary. During the use of this drug, false positive results may occur in urine tests, so care is needed in interpreting test results.
