Dosage

[Orally] 1.5-2.25g of Methocarbamol is to be divided into three doses per day. [Injectable] 500mg of Methocarbamol is administered by intramuscular or intravenous injection. Do not exceed 1g in a single dose or a total daily dosage of 3g, and do not administer continuously for more than three days. However, if pain persists, the same process may be cautiously repeated after 48 hours.

Precautions

Caution is needed when opening the ampoule as glass fragments may enter the solution, so extreme care should be taken to avoid contamination when using the injection. Special attention is required when children and elderly patients use this medication. This medication should not be used by individuals with allergies to this drug or similar components, those with poor kidney function, severely weak muscles, those in a coma, or those with a history of brain damage, epilepsy, or seizures. Patients with poor liver function should use this medication cautiously as symptoms may worsen. Allergic reactions such as skin rashes, hives, or itching may occur with this medication, and if such symptoms arise, use should be immediately discontinued. Additionally, heart rate may slow down or blood pressure may drop, requiring caution. Mental symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, balance disturbances, headache, or fainting may occur, necessitating a reduction in dosage or discontinuation of the medication in such cases. Gastrointestinal symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, heartburn, diarrhea, or constipation. Occasionally, a metallic taste may be experienced, and symptoms such as fever or nasal congestion may also appear. Pain or hardening at the injection site may occur, and rarely thrombophlebitis may develop; thus, the injection site should be closely monitored. This medication may cause drowsiness and impair concentration and reflexes, so it is advisable not to drive or operate dangerous machinery while receiving treatment. This medication may enhance the effects of other central nervous system depressants or certain medications; therefore, consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential when taken in combination. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, and breastfeeding women are advised against using it. The safety and efficacy of this medication in children and the elderly have not been sufficiently established, so especially in the elderly, caution is necessary as there may be reduced physical function that requires dosage adjustments. This medication may affect urine test results, so this should be disclosed during testing. The injectable form should only be used when oral administration is not feasible, and intravenous injection should be done slowly with an appropriate solution. When injecting, the patient should be placed on their side, and the ampoule should be wrapped with an ethanol swab when being opened to prevent glass fragments from contaminating the solution.
