Treatment of infections such as otitis media and respiratory infections (pneumonia, pharyngitis), etc.
This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Influenzae, and Staphylococcus. Major indications include respiratory infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, laryngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis. It is also effective for urogenital infections such as pyelonephritis, cystitis, and gonococcal urethritis. In skin and soft tissue infections, it is used to treat abscesses, boils, folliculitis, soft tissue infections, infectious gangrene, subcutaneous abscess, burn wounds, and wound infections. This drug effectively treats various infectious diseases and improves symptoms.
As cefaclor hydrate, administer 250mg (based on potency) orally every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections and infections with low susceptibility, the dosage may be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, combine a single dose of 3g with 1g of probenecid.
Administer 20mg per kg of body weight per day (based on potency), divided into doses every 8 hours. For severe infections, otitis media, and infections with low susceptibility, a dose of 40mg per kg of body weight per day (based on potency) may be given, with a maximum dose of 1.
This medication works by binding to certain proteins to inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing the bacteria. This medication should not be used in patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock from this drug or similar antibiotics in the past. Precautions are necessary for individuals who are allergic to penicillin antibiotics or those prone to allergic symptoms such as asthma, rashes, or hives. Patients with severe renal impairment, those unable to take the medication orally, older adults, or those in poor overall health should be carefully monitored due to the risk of bleeding from vitamin K deficiency. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders, especially colitis, should also exercise caution when using this medication. Rarely, this medication can cause serious allergic reactions such as shock or anaphylaxis; if symptoms appear during use, administration should be immediately stopped and appropriate treatment sought. Severe rashes on the skin or serious skin reactions like Stevens-Johnson syndrome may occur, so it is important to consult a doctor immediately if unusual symptoms arise. Blood tests may show abnormalities such as leukopenia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, requiring regular monitoring. Liver dysfunction or renal impairment may occur rarely, necessitating regular tests to check. Gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting may develop; severe diarrhea or blood in stools should be reported to a physician immediately. Respiratory effects may manifest as symptoms of interstitial pneumonia, so persistent shortness of breath or cough should be reported to healthcare providers. Occasionally, symptoms such as anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, or hallucinations may occur affecting the central nervous system; these should be monitored closely. Prolonged use of this medication may lead to oral inflammation or candidiasis (fungal infection). Bleeding tendencies due to vitamin K deficiency or symptoms of B vitamin deficiency may rarely appear, requiring attention if symptoms arise. There may be interactions when used with other medications, particularly those that affect blood coagulation or burden the kidneys, so consultation with healthcare professionals is mandatory. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication cautiously, as its safety has not been completely verified; women with the potential for pregnancy should consult a doctor before taking. For newborns under one month, the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been established, requiring careful attention when used. Elderly patients are at higher risk of side effects due to decreased physiological function; therefore, dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted with caution.
