This medication is used to treat infections caused by various bacteria. It is effective for respiratory infections, excluding acute bronchitis, and community-acquired pneumonia. It also works well for various infections of the ear, nose, and throat, as well as bacterial prostatitis and urinary tract infections. Additionally, it is used for treating bacterial infections in various sites such as the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, skin and soft tissues, bones and joints, gynecological infections, and peritonitis. However, fluoroquinolone antibiotics like this should be administered restrictively when no alternative therapy exists due to the potential for serious side effects in some conditions. Overall, this medication is used effectively to improve various bacterial infections.

How to take

Precautions

This medication may cause serious muscle and tendon issues such as tendonitis and tendon rupture. If these symptoms occur, stop taking the medication immediately. It should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis as it may worsen symptoms. It is not to be administered to pregnant or breastfeeding women, or children under 18 years old or adolescents in growth. Patients with a history of seizures or hypersensitivity to this medication should also avoid its use. This medication may cause sensitivity to sunlight, so strong sunlight or UV exposure should be avoided, and if skin rash or itching occurs, discontinuation is advised. Caution is needed when driving or operating machinery, and it is best not to take it with alcohol. Diabetic patients on blood sugar control medications should frequently monitor blood sugar as symptoms of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia may occur. Serious side effects

Tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system effects, exacerbation of myasthenia gravis, anaphylaxis, anaphylactoid reaction shock, serum sickness-like reaction, life-threatening bone marrow suppression, life-threatening colitis, hepatic necrosis, life-threatening liver failure, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, seizures, status epilepticus, convulsions, headache.

Mild side effects

Fungal superinfections, antibiotic-associated colitis, eosinophilia, (thrombotic) phlebitis, leukopenia, anemia, neutropenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia, thrombocytosis, erythrocytopenia, decreased hemoglobin, decreased hematocrit, agranulocytosis, leukocyte lysis, increased INR, syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion, allergic reactions, allergic edema/angioedema, decreased appetite, and reduced food intake.
