How to take

Adult dose

Administer 250mg (potency) orally every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections and infections with low susceptibility, the dosage can be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, co-administration of 3g of this drug and 1g of probenecid as a single dose is used.

Child dose

Administer 20mg (potency) per kg of body weight daily, divided every 8 hours. In cases of severe infections, otitis media, and infections with low susceptibility, administer up to 40mg (potency) per kg of body weight daily, with a maximum dose of 1.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock in the past due to this drug. It is also safer not to give it to patients who are allergic to this drug or cephalosporin antibiotics. Use with caution in patients with a history of allergy to penicillin antibiotics, patients with allergic diathesis, and patients with severe renal disease. Patients who have difficulty taking oral medication, the elderly, and patients in poor general condition should be carefully monitored for vitamin K deficiency symptoms. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis patients, also require caution. This drug can rarely cause shock or severe allergic reactions, so if any unusual symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Serious reactions on the skin may occur, so if rashes, itching, blisters, etc., develop, inform the medical staff immediately. Regular testing is necessary as abnormalities such as leukopenia and anemia may be found in blood tests. Liver dysfunction or signs of renal function decline may also occur, so periodic monitoring is important. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea may appear, so consult a doctor if symptoms are severe. Respiratory abnormalities or central nervous system symptoms have also been reported rarely, so caution is warranted. When using this drug, it is recommended to perform susceptibility testing against infective pathogens to prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria and to administer for only the minimum necessary duration. Additionally, it is important to thoroughly inquire about previous allergy history to assess the risk of shock. This drug may interact with other medications, so caution is needed, especially when used with probenecid, nephrotoxic drugs, diuretics, anticoagulants, and oral contraceptives. Regular monitoring is required as it may affect blood coagulation test results. During pregnancy, safety has not been fully established, so it should only be used when the therapeutic benefit is judged to outweigh the risks. Breastfeeding women should use it cautiously as a small amount may be transferred to breast milk. Safety and efficacy in newborns, especially in those under one month of age, have not been established, so caution is needed for use. In the elderly, due to decreased bodily function, the risk of adverse reactions may be high, so dosage adjustment and monitoring of condition are important. This drug may affect test results, so care should be taken in interpreting test results during urine tests or blood tests.
