Precautions

This medication should not be used by individuals who are allergic to this drug or its ingredients or have shown hypersensitivity. Those with epilepsy or seizure disorders, or a history of such conditions, should be cautious as this medication may induce seizures. This medication cannot replace corticosteroid medications used for asthma treatment; hence, it is inappropriate to use solely as an asthma medication. Breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication, and if necessary, breastfeeding should be discontinued. Patients taking oral hypoglycemic agents should have their platelet counts regularly monitored, as this medication may decrease platelet counts when used concurrently. Patients with fructose intolerance or those genetically unable to break down certain sugars should avoid certain formulations of this medication. When first taking this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, and dry mouth may occur, but they typically resolve naturally over time. Particularly in children, central nervous system symptoms such as agitation, hypersensitivity, and insomnia may occur, necessitating careful observation. Caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery, as reaction times may be slowed in the initial period after starting this medication. Patients who have been on long-term steroid therapy should gradually adjust the dosage when starting or discontinuing this medication, as abrupt cessation may cause side effects. This medication is not an anti-seizure agent; therefore, other treatments are needed if seizure symptoms occur. For patients with seasonal allergies, it is advisable to start this medication before the symptoms worsen and continue taking it throughout the symptom duration. Do not suddenly discontinue the medication; instead, taper off gradually over 2 to 4 weeks to minimize side effects. When taken with other medications, especially sedatives, sleeping pills, antihistamines, and alcohol, the effects may be enhanced, necessitating dosage adjustments. The safety of this medication during pregnancy is not well established, so careful consideration is needed if pregnant or possibly pregnant.
