Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Caution is required when used in patients with hyperthyroidism, hypertension, heart diseases such as heart failure or arrhythmias, diabetes, sensitivity to sympathomimetic amines, and in pregnant women or women who may become pregnant. Possible neurological side effects such as headache, tremors, drowsiness, tinnitus, dizziness, nervousness, and insomnia may occur when taking this medication. Additionally, cardiovascular side effects such as increased heart rate or blood pressure changes, and rarely arrhythmias or angina may occur. Gastrointestinal side effects may include decreased appetite, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, and discomfort in the stomach. Respiratory side effects may include cough, bronchitis, wheezing, and rarely pharyngitis or nasal congestion. Skin rash, angioedema, urticaria, bronchospasm, oral and pharyngeal edema, hypotension, and collapse may rarely occur; if these symptoms appear, the medication should be discontinued. Overdosing may induce arrhythmias or cardiac arrest, hence it is essential to adhere to the prescribed dosage. If there is no effect, it is advisable to stop taking the medication. Particularly when administering to children, the instructions must be followed precisely, and the child's condition must be carefully monitored. There is a risk of decreased serum potassium levels, so when using with xanthine drugs, steroids, or diuretics, caution is required, and regular potassium level tests are recommended for patients with hypoxemia. This medication may cause arrhythmias or cardiac arrest when used with catecholamines such as epinephrine or isoproterenol and should not be co-administered. Special caution is necessary for patients taking MAO inhibitors or tricyclic antidepressants, as their vascular effects may be enhanced. This drug should not be used in conjunction with non-selective beta-blockers such as propranolol. Caution should be taken when administered to patients who are taking multiple sympathomimetics. Its safety has not been established in pregnant women; thus, it should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks. Safety in premature infants and newborns has not been confirmed; therefore, its use is not recommended. Elderly patients should use it cautiously and may need reduced dosages due to potential bodily function decline. In the case of overdose, stopping the medication usually resolves symptoms, but if necessary, a cardiac selective beta-blocker may be used as an antidote, though caution is advised in patients with a history of bronchospasm. This drug suppresses skin allergen reactions, so it is advisable to discontinue it for more than 12 hours prior to allergy testing.
