This drug is an antibiotic used in the treatment of infections caused by various bacteria. It is primarily effective for complicated skin and soft tissue infections, acute and chronic otitis media, bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia, and acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Additionally, it is used for acute pyelonephritis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, urethritis, bacterial dysentery and enteritis, infections of the uterus and its appendages, and eye-related infections. However, caution is advised as it should be used judiciously for certain infections only when other treatment options are not available, due to the risk of serious adverse reactions; it should be taken under the guidance of a physician. Considering these factors, this drug safely and effectively aids in the treatment of infections.

Precautions

This drug may cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system disturbance symptoms, so caution is needed. In particular, patients with myasthenia gravis should not use this drug as it may worsen their symptoms. Furthermore, it is limited to use for acute bacterial infection treatment and should only be administered when no other treatment options are available. This drug should be avoided in combination with corticosteroids to minimize the risk of tendon rupture, particularly in elderly patients, those with impaired renal function, and organ transplant recipients. If symptoms of pain, inflammation, or tendon rupture occur, the medication should be stopped immediately, and rest should be taken while avoiding physical activity. Patients with myasthenia gravis should be especially cautious due to neuromuscular blocking action that may worsen symptoms. Those with hypersensitivity or a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture, growing children and adolescents, pregnant and nursing women, and patients with certain genetic disorders should not use this drug. Caution should be exercised in patients with severe renal impairment, the elderly, those with mental disorders, liver dysfunction, and a history of aortic disease. During treatment, allergic reactions, hypersensitivity, liver and renal dysfunction, gastrointestinal issues, blood abnormalities, neurological issues, skin issues, musculoskeletal issues, and respiratory and circulatory adverse reactions may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, consult a physician immediately. This drug may react sensitively to ultraviolet light, so sun exposure or artificial UV exposure should be avoided, and if symptoms like rash appear, treatment should be discontinued. Additionally, there is a risk of seizures, thus caution is advised for patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. Regular liver and renal function tests and blood tests should be conducted during the treatment period, and adequate hydration is necessary. This drug may cause neurological issues like dizziness, so caution is needed while driving or operating machinery. Diabetic patients managing blood sugar must closely monitor for symptoms of hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia, and check for interactions with concurrent medications such as anticoagulants, anti-inflammatory drugs, and certain antacids. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing women, should not use this drug and should discontinue breastfeeding. This drug's safety has not been established for growing children and adolescents, so it should not be administered. Elderly patients should be administered cautiously, adjusting doses and dosing intervals due to potential increased drug concentration from renal impairment. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, nausea, and dizziness may occur, requiring careful observation and sufficient hydration. When administering intravenously, it should be injected slowly and should not be administered with certain solutions. Lastly, this drug must be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to other containers should be avoided.
