Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease
This drug is used to treat gastric and duodenal ulcers, as well as gastrointestinal diseases such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and gastroesophageal reflux disease. Additionally, it is administered before anesthesia to prevent Mendelson's syndrome and is effective in treating postoperative ulcers. This drug can also help with peptic ulcers, acute stress ulcers, and acute gastric mucosal lesions due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding. It is used to treat and prevent various digestive-related diseases.

For intravenous administration, dilute 50mg of this drug in 20ml of normal saline or glucose solution and administer slowly over at least 2 minutes or mix with IV fluids to infuse at a rate of 25mg/hr over 2 hours. For pre-anesthesia administration, inject 50mg intramuscularly or slowly intravenously over 1 minute 45-60 minutes before induction of anesthesia.

This drug should not be used in patients who have had allergic reactions to this drug or any of its components. In patients with impaired kidney function, as this drug may remain in the body longer, the dosage should be reduced or the administration interval should be extended. This drug should be used with caution in patients with impaired liver function, a history of drug allergies, and elderly patients. Patients with a history of acute porphyria, a rare disease, should avoid this drug as it may worsen symptoms. This drug can rarely cause severe allergic reactions, such as anaphylactic shock; if any abnormal symptoms occur after administration, treatment should be stopped immediately and medical attention sought. If allergy symptoms such as hives, rash, difficulty breathing, or low blood pressure occur, the medication should be discontinued. Blood tests may show reduced white blood cells or platelets, so if symptoms such as general malaise, bleeding, or fever occur, consult a physician immediately. If symptoms of liver dysfunction or jaundice appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and discussed with a healthcare professional. Rare side effects such as arrhythmias, vasculitis, and cardiac arrest may occur, so patients with heart disease should be cautious. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as constipation, nausea, and abdominal pain may occur, and if symptoms are severe, notify healthcare personnel. Neurological symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, headache, confusion, and hallucinations may occur; report any abnormal symptoms immediately. Hormone-related side effects such as gynecomastia and erectile dysfunction have been reported rarely, but causation is unclear. Serious muscle issues such as myalgia or rhabdomyolysis may occur rarely; consult healthcare professionals if muscle pain is severe. Skin reactions such as rashes, hair loss, and itching may occur. While using this drug, regular blood tests, liver function tests, and kidney function tests should be conducted, and if there is no therapeutic effect, alternative treatments should be considered. Elderly patients or those with chronic lung disease or diabetes may have an increased risk of pneumonia, so caution is advised. For high-dose intravenous use over five days, it's recommended to monitor liver enzyme levels daily. This drug should only be used when oral administration is not feasible or in emergencies, and it is preferable to switch to oral administration as soon as possible. This drug may interact with other medications, so inform healthcare providers if any other medications are being taken. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the benefits and risks before using this drug. Lactating women should also use this drug only when necessary, as it may be passed into breast milk. Safety in children has not been sufficiently established, so caution is necessary in its use. The urine protein test may yield false positive results, so other methods should be used for accurate testing. Overdose is rarely associated with specific toxic symptoms, but vomiting or gastric lavage may be necessary for appropriate emergency treatment. Intramuscular injection may cause pain or hardness at the injection site. Patients at risk of arrhythmias should be careful not to infuse this drug too quickly; intravenous injections should be administered slowly over at least 2 minutes. This drug may conceal symptoms of gastric cancer, so patients with gastric ulcers or new indigestion symptoms over the age of 40 should confirm malignancy before administration.
