Treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastroesophageal reflux disease, improvement of gastric mucosal lesions
This medication is effective for the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease, recurrent ulcers, anastomotic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used for the improvement of gastric mucosal lesions such as erosion, bleeding, redness, and swelling that occur during acute exacerbations of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis. In other words, this drug helps treat various inflammatory and ulcerative diseases of the stomach and esophagus and aids in the recovery of gastric mucosal damage.
Adults: Administer 400 mg of cimetidine orally twice a day (morning and at bedtime) or 800 mg once at bedtime. Additionally, it can be given 300 mg orally four times a day (after meals and before bedtime). The dose can be increased up to 1.6 g (400 mg four times a day after meals and at bedtime). For acute gastritis and acute exacerbations of chronic gastritis, administer 200 mg orally twice a day or 400 mg once a day.
Children: Administer 20 to 40 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into oral doses.
This drug can cause adverse reactions due to glass particles when using glass ampoule injections; therefore, care must be taken when cutting the container. Extra caution is required when administering to children and the elderly. It should not be given to patients with hypersensitivity to this drug or cimetidine or those with a history of such reactions, as well as to patients taking dofetilide. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, elderly patients, children under 19, and those undergoing dialysis should be managed carefully, including dosage adjustments or changes in administration intervals. Additionally, since this drug may mask symptoms of stomach cancer, it should be used only after confirming malignancy, and eradication therapy should accompany this drug in Helicobacter pylori positive gastric and duodenal ulcer patients. This drug can cause various side effects such as decreased blood cell count, liver function abnormalities, kidney dysfunction, hypersensitivity reactions, endocrine abnormalities, gastrointestinal symptoms, neuropsychiatric issues, cardiovascular problems, and severe skin reactions, so if symptoms appear, immediate consultation with a healthcare professional is necessary. During treatment, the course of the disease should be observed closely alongside blood tests and liver and kidney function assessments, and if there's no effect, consider changing to another treatment method. Particularly for elderly patients or those with chronic diseases, there is an increased risk of community-acquired pneumonia, so caution is warranted. This drug can interact with multiple other medications, so if other medications are being taken, inform the healthcare provider, and dose adjustments may be needed. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the use of this drug as it may pose risks, and breastfeeding should be halted while on this medication. Safety in children has not been conclusively established; therefore, it should only be given when necessary. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentration due to decreased kidney function, thus requiring dosage reductions or extended intervals. Serious symptoms such as respiratory depression may occur in cases of overdose, necessitating immediate emergency care. When administered as an injection, fast intravenous injection may cause arrhythmias or blood pressure drops, so it must be administered slowly. This drug should be stored out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container should be avoided as it may degrade quality or cause accidents.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This drug should be stored in a sealed container to prevent air ingress and is best kept at a temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will help maintain the drug's effectiveness.
