Efficacy & effects

This medication is effective for sterilizing and disinfecting not only areas of cuts, burns, and wounds but also areas with ulcers or abscesses. It is also used to disinfect infected skin areas, surgical sites, and areas where injections or catheters are inserted. Overall, it helps to clean wounds and infected areas to prevent and treat infections.

Dosage

Apply an appropriate amount to the affected area once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to this medication or its ingredients. It is advisable not to administer this medication to patients with abnormal thyroid function, especially those with nodular goiter or Hashimoto's thyroiditis. It is also advisable not to use this medication in patients with poor kidney function or renal failure. This medication should not be used in newborns and infants under 6 months of age. Patients with herpetic dermatitis or those undergoing radioactive iodine treatment before and after should not be given this medication. Patients who are severely ill or have a history of thyroid disease, as well as those with a history of renal failure, should use this medication with caution. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as respiratory distress, skin rash, and hives may occur when using this medication; if these symptoms appear, use should be stopped immediately. Symptoms such as pain, itching, rash, redness, or dermatitis on the skin may occur, and if severe, use should be discontinued. Using large amounts may lead to side effects such as electrolyte imbalance, metabolic acidosis, and renal failure, so caution is needed. Long-term use may lead to changes in thyroid hormone levels, so regular testing is necessary. Large quantities may cause metallic taste or symptoms such as burning and pain in the throat and mouth, eye irritation, diarrhea, and respiratory distress. Excessive use can lead to iodine toxicity, so appropriate dosing should be maintained. Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised not to use this medication for prolonged or extensive periods as it may affect the thyroid function of the fetus and newborn, so caution is required. This medication may affect thyroid function tests, so dosing intervals should be adjusted during testing. Patients undergoing lithium therapy should avoid using this medication, and its effects may decrease or interact when used with certain other drugs. Care should be taken to avoid this medication getting into the eyes, and if it does, it should be rinsed immediately with clean water. When using, ensure to disinfect the affected area thoroughly and do not mix it with other medications. Store away from direct sunlight, and it is preferable to use a non-metallic container for storage. In case of overdose, contact a medical facility immediately for appropriate treatment.

Interactions

Do not use this medication in conjunction with hydrogen peroxide. If using with lithium preparations, chlorhexidine, silver sulfadiazine compounds, alkaline, mercury-containing preparations, or enzyme-based wound treatments, it is essential to consult with a physician or pharmacist.
