How it is given

Adult administration

For tuberculosis treatment, administer 1g intramuscularly once daily as streptomycin. Treatment may be given 2-3 times a week or daily for the first 1-3 months, then twice a week thereafter. If necessary, it can be administered locally. For other diseases, administer 1-2g daily split into 1-2 doses intramuscularly, adjusting according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug may pose a risk of severe nerve damage when used in patients with poor kidney function or systemic nitrogen retention, so the dosage should be reduced. This drug may cause issues with the vestibular and auditory organs, and can also affect the optic and peripheral nerves. Caution is advised when used together with anesthetics or muscle relaxants, as neuromuscular blockade may lead to respiratory failure. This drug should not be administered to individuals with allergies to specific antibiotics, pregnant or nursing women, patients with muscle disorders, or children under 2 years of age. Patients with hearing or kidney problems, reduced liver function, elderly patients, malnourished individuals, or those with ear issues should use this drug cautiously. While using this drug, rare side effects such as shock, skin rashes, interstitial pneumonia, blood abnormalities, neurological disorders, liver function abnormalities, and kidney function abnormalities may occur, and symptoms should be closely monitored. For long-term use, regular hearing tests and kidney function tests are recommended, and the usage period should preferably not exceed 14 days for safety. This drug is dangerous when used with other nephrotoxic medications or anesthetics/muscle relaxants, so concomitant use should be avoided or approached with caution. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this drug, and if nursing, they should either discontinue breastfeeding or stop the medication. The safety of this drug has not been established in children, especially infants under 2 years, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Elderly patients are at higher risk of showing side effects due to possible reduced kidney function, necessitating careful monitoring and adjustment of dosage and administration intervals. In the case of overdose, kidney damage, hearing damage, vestibular disorders, neuromuscular block, and respiratory paralysis may occur, requiring immediate treatment, including hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis in a hospital. It is not advisable to inject this drug mixed with other medications, and it should be used as soon as possible after dissolution. Furthermore, caution is warranted when administering this drug to patients using citric acid anticoagulants, as neuromuscular blockade and respiratory paralysis may occur.
