Overwhelming sleepiness can be difficult to overcome. Many people experience extreme fatigue, especially in the morning after waking up or immediately after lunch. While sufficient rest and a healthy lifestyle are key to combating fatigue, simple stretching exercises can also help if you're in a hurry. Here are some sleep-fighting exercises you can do even in confined spaces.
◇Back and stomach stretching
Sitting upright and tensing your body can help you wake up. Sit upright in a chair with your back straight and place your hands on your knees. Tense your body for 10 seconds by pulling your knees in and pulling your stomach in, then relax. Then, exhale, lower your knees back down, arch your head and back as much as possible, and hold the stretch for 10 seconds.
◇Neck Stretching
Releasing tight muscles and joints will feel refreshing. Let's stretch your neck. While seated, support your chin with your thumbs, lift your head, and hold for 10 seconds before slowly lowering it. Next, place your clasped hands on the back of your head and use the weight of your arms to tilt your head forward, stretching for 10 seconds. Next, wrap your right hand around the left side of your head and pull your head to the right, stretching for 10 seconds. Repeat on the other side.
◇Hand exercises
When you're feeling drowsy or sleepy, moving your hands can also be effective in waking up your brain. This involves moving each hand in different directions to stimulate the left and right sides of your brain. Move your right hand up and down, while simultaneously moving your left hand to the right and left. Switch hands and repeat the same motion. However, if you're feeling drowsy, consider taking a short nap of 5-10 minutes or taking a short walk to get some sunlight.
