Many people exercise daily to stay healthy or to stay young. However, excessive exercise can actually induce reactive oxygen species and accelerate aging, so caution is needed.
Excessive reactive oxygen species accelerate aging
Excessive reactive oxygen species attack normal cells in the body, accelerating aging and increasing the risk of various diseases, including cancer. Since reactive oxygen species exist wherever cells are present, all organs in the body are targets of their attack.
Excessive reactive oxygen species can damage brain cells, leading to dementia; damage to blood vessels causes arteriosclerosis; attack on the eyes results in cataracts; and effects on the skin lead to increased wrinkles.
You need to do stretching after high-intensity exercise.
Reactive oxygen species are continuously produced during our breathing. Nutrients and oxygen are the main raw materials that generate reactive oxygen species. Therefore, when you do high-intensity exercise and breathe heavily, more reactive oxygen species are produced. When engaging in high-intensity exercise, you should gradually reduce your movements and stop exercising. This way, oxygen is consumed little by little, preventing the remaining oxygen from turning into reactive oxygen species. If you suddenly stop intense exercise, the excess oxygen produced to maintain high exercise intensity is not used for energy but becomes reactive oxygen species.
It is best to exercise at a moderate intensity that causes slight sweating. If you engage in high-intensity exercise, do not stop immediately; instead, finish with low-intensity activities such as walking or stretching to prevent the production of reactive oxygen species.
Sitting cross-legged can also induce reactive oxygen species and should be avoided. When sitting cross-legged, blood flow in the legs is restricted, and suddenly stretching the legs causes suppressed blood to flow, generating reactive oxygen species. Additionally, cigarette smoke, stress, and ultraviolet rays are factors that promote the production of reactive oxygen species.
