Tears that are good for stress

When under stress, the hormone called 'catecholamine' is secreted in large amounts, and crying during this time helps to excrete catecholamine from the body. After crying, stress is alleviated and a sense of psychological stability is achieved, which is also why this happens.

 

In fact, a research team from Toho University School of Medicine in Japan analyzed changes in brain waves, eye movements, and electrocardiograms when tears were shed, and it has been proven that even when human stress reaches its peak, it returns to normal shortly after crying.

 

Conversely, forcibly suppressing tears can keep stress hormones elevated, leading to a feeling of chest tightness and difficulty breathing. In severe cases, it can worsen into depression, anxiety disorders, or panic attacks. Therefore, it is better not to hold back tears and to let them flow, and if tears do not come naturally, watching a sad movie and crying can also be a good method.

 

When tears are shed, over 20 neurotransmitters such as endorphins, serotonin, and enkephalins, known as happiness hormones, are secreted. At the same time, it helps activate immune cells like NK cells and T cells, boosting the body's immunity. In particular, enkephalins are neuropeptide hormones that are known to be 300 times more effective in pain relief than the narcotic painkiller morphine.

 

Furthermore, tears are also effective in producing antibodies that suppress cancer cells. According to Dr. Lee Byung-wook, a domestic cancer treatment specialist and author of <Cry to Live>, crying freely more than doubles the production of an antibody called 'Immunoglobulin G' that inhibits the growth of cancer cells. This antibody also helps the digestive system move smoothly, aiding in the digestion of food.
