I need to have a gastroscopy along with a health checkup, and I was wondering whether I should do it under sleep or not.

Sleep endoscopy has less psychological burden as there is no pain or discomfort during the examination, but it is said that the recovery time is long due to the use of anesthesia and there are rare side effects such as respiratory depression.

Since I have a good tolerance for pain, I chose a non-sedated gastroscopy with a quick recovery time.

I made a reservation at the Boramae Hospital National Health Screening Center, took annual leave from work that day, and visited in the morning. There were many patients waiting.

After completing height/weight/hearing/vision/blood/urine tests, I finally had an endoscopy.

After undergoing a non-sedated gastroscopy, the words 'it's not easy' come out naturally.

Since it was performed without general anesthesia, my neck and stomach were directly stimulated, making it difficult to breathe for a moment, and it was so painful that I was about to cry.

However, the examination was short and over quickly, and I didn't have to wait in the recovery room, so I could return to my daily routine right away. While the discomfort was significant, I believe the quick recovery and quicker results were the advantages.

We recommend that you carefully consider the pros and cons when making your choice.
