Sharing information on the 8 early symptoms of dementia and quick dementia screening tests!

I can't remember where I put my car keys, wallet, and phone, so I looked for them several times.

They call the kids by different names because they get confused.

I opened the refrigerator but can't remember what I was looking for.

I can't remember what I was trying to search for on my phone no matter how much I think about it.

It's now difficult to find the way, and I often forget appointments...

I forgot the name of the academy teacher and I can't remember the names of the kids' close friends.

There are really more, haha

Lately, my forgetfulness has really worsened.

But what is even more shocking...

My mom's birthday is on the 2nd day of the 8th lunar month.

I remembered it as August 10th... I missed my birthday.

It's my birthday that I celebrate every year, so why did I confuse the date?

I was so surprised that I was startled.

I happen to hear a lot about early-onset dementia these days.

I called the health center to ask if testing is available.

They said that only those aged 60 and above can receive free health screenings.

So, I took a quick dementia test online.

Fortunately, it is not indicated as a stage of dementia..

I'm afraid my memory is gradually deteriorating, so I studied about dementia.

I am diligently managing it these days.

I will share health information about dementia that I know.

As people get older, everyone seems to experience forgetfulness.

Women also experience pregnancy and childbirth... and as they age, their forgetfulness worsens.

What I was really curious about...

What is the difference between forgetfulness and dementia?

🟢 Difference between Forgetfulness and Dementia 🟢

Sharing information on the 8 early symptoms of dementia and quick dementia screening tests!

Both forgetfulness and dementia involve memory decline, but there are important differences in their symptoms.

Memory loss is mainly characterized by small everyday mistakes or momentary forgetfulness.

Example situation) The appointment was scheduled two days in advance.

Assuming I received a call from a friend on the day of the appointment asking me to come for dinner with my husband by 7 PM this afternoon.

In the case of forgetfulness: I end up calling my friend again to ask, "What time did you say to come?"

In the case of dementia: Completely forget that a friend made such a call and end up having the husband prepare dinner.

✅ Experiences slight inconveniences in daily life but recovers memories on their own or recalls them through clues.

Patients with forgetfulness can usually continue their work and daily activities without significant difficulty.
On the other hand, dementia goes beyond simple memory decline; it can lead to complete loss of memory or an inability to recall even with hints.
Dementia patients cannot remember even recent significant events and even forget the faces of family and friends.
As various cognitive functions such as language ability, judgment, and sense of time and space decline together, it becomes difficult to maintain daily life alone. At first, it may seem like simple mistakes, but over time, they lose their way, forget the concept of time, and cannot find objects.

🔴 Early Symptoms of Dementia 🔴

Let's look at the 8 early signs of dementia.

If you have 3 to 4 or more out of the 8, we recommend that you undergo a test.

1️⃣Current memory decline

Recent incidents or conversations are forgotten due to episodic amnesia.

I can't remember what happened yesterday and today.

Loss of sense of direction in familiar places 2️⃣

Even familiar roads feel like the first time, and I often get lost.

Difficulty finding or expressing words or phrases

It is difficult to find the right words, and conversations become difficult.

I have poor expressive skills and difficulty communicating.

4️⃣ Deterioration of judgment and reasoning skills

Making unsafe or inappropriate decisions

At first, it feels like there are frequent mistakes...

Repeated mistakes should be questioned.

Confusion about time or place for 5 hours

Confusion about date, season, and time

I can't immediately tell what date it is or what day of the week it is today.

6️⃣Behavior and personality change

An individual who was slow or introverted becomes extroverted.

Showing aggressive tendencies or losing motivation...

You are showing a different personality than usual.

7️⃣ Increased incidents of placing and losing objects

Forget belongings, put them in the wrong place, or lose them.

8️⃣ Mood swings and decreased motivation

Feelings of depression, anxiety, and lethargy appear.

🟣 Dementia Test 🟣

1st stage cognitive screening test
2nd stage diagnostic test
3rd stage differential diagnosis

You can think of it in three stages.

✅ Step 1: Dementia screening conducted at the public health center:

The dementia test conducted at the health center takes about 30 minutes.

You could previously receive it at the public health center, but now you need to go to the Dementia Safety Center.
Of course, there are many cases where a Dementia Safety Center is located within the public health center.

Please contact us in advance to check if the examination is possible.

✅ Step 2: Dementia screening conducted at the hospital

It seems that the tests conducted at the hospital are more difficult than those at the public health center.
The dementia test takes up to an hour.

✅Stage 3: Blood and imaging tests conducted at the hospital
It refers to tests conducted at the hospital, such as CT, MRI, and blood tests.

Usually, if you are 60 years old or older, you can get free testing at the public health center.

I heard that if you do it at a private medical hospital, the test cost is about 150,000 won.

If your income is at or below 120% of the median income, you can receive up to 150,000 won in support from the government, so it would be good to apply if you qualify.

If you are under 60 years old with a median income of 120% or higher, the cost of the test may be burdensome to pay out of pocket, right?

These days, there are many cases of early-onset dementia... I am worried.

I did a quick mental status test at home.

You can also print a paper version by searching for "Dementia Quick Test" on the internet.

If the score indicates suspected or confirmed dementia, we recommend that you visit the hospital for a thorough examination.

Recently, I heard that the instructor Kim Chang-ok, whom I like very much, was diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia.

I understand you're now approaching 50 years old... I was really surprised.
There is a common perception that dementia is a condition that can occur in old age.

However, recently, there are also quite a few cases of early-onset dementia among middle-aged people between 45 and 65 years old.

Since you can find the phone number of a close person like a family member just by searching their name,

It's also quite problematic when you no longer feel the need to remember.
If you do not make an effort to remember something well, the function of the hippocampus responsible for memory in the brain deteriorates.

Please frequently play Sudoku or memory games in your spare time.

Recently, I've been confusing the children's names and finding it harder to locate places like I used to.

I become more concerned.

There is no cure for dementia, but prevention is possible.
The beginning of dementia prevention is early screening.

Please carefully check for early symptoms of dementia, and if you notice any signs, it is advisable to get an early diagnosis and receive treatment.

Everyone stay healthy and have a great day today~
