On October 5th (Saturday), the Seoul World Fireworks Festival will be held at Yeouido Hangang Park.

Those who are going, be careful of the crowds, and I think you can just enjoy the fun festival. Haha

October is festival month. The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has selected representative festivals in Gyeonggi Province where you can experience history and culture under the clear autumn sky while enjoying delicious food. As the largest local government in the country, there are plenty of diverse sights and activities everywhere, so you can freely choose based on your mood on the day. It is also perfect for a picnic with children or a filial outing with elderly parents, making it a great autumn festival in Gyeonggi Province.

◇The elegance and romance of tradition... Anseong's Namsadang Bawdeok Festival

Anseong, the birthplace and headquarters of the Joseon Dynasty's Namsadang, was the cradle of our popular culture. The Anseong Matched Namsadang Bawduk-i Festival began in 2001 to carry on the artistic spirit of the legendary female puppet master Bawduk-i. It has established itself as a world-renowned performing arts festival and an official event of the UNESCO advisory partner organization CIOFF. A variety of programs are held, reflecting its long history. This year, under the theme "Joseon's First Female Idol Bawduk-i, Riding the Thread Connecting the World!", the festival takes place at Anseong Matcha Land and along the Anseongcheon River. Joyful Namsadang performances are held throughout the area, recreating the old Anseong marketplace, once one of the three major markets of Joseon. In addition to rich performances such as folk park shows and creative performances, visitors can enjoy fun experiences like barrel rolling and tightrope walking. Known as a "kind festival without price gouging," it is a safe and enjoyable autumn outing.

◇ 'Asia's Best'… Bucheon International Comics Festival

The Bucheon International Cartoon Festival, now in its 27th year, is considered one of the top comic festivals in Asia. This year, under the theme "Comics! Even Greater Encounters," it offers a rich program of interdisciplinary content and exciting experiences. Starting with a special exhibition of works that received the Bucheon Cartoon Award, various comics are on display, and popular animated films such as "Eungtong Detective" will be screened for free. Large-scale events include the Gyeonggi International Cosplay Championship, the Comic & Webtoon Original Creation Music Festival, and fun experiential activities like caricature drawing, amateur cosplay, and an anime song contest. The program also features artist meet-and-greets that cross online and offline platforms, and a comic market filled with merchandise from creative artists, making it an unmissable source of joy.

◇ 'Suwon’s Premier Autumn Festival'… Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival

Suwon Hwaseong Fortress embodies King Jeongjo's filial piety and his grand vision for national prosperity and strength. Its architectural significance is also very great, which led to its designation as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, now in its 61st year, is a representative autumn festival of Suwon, a city rich in history, offering a variety of cultural and artistic content related to King Jeongjo and Suwon Hwaseong. In particular, traditional performance shows such as 'Nakseongyeon: Sanghadanrak' held on the special stage at Haenggung Square and 'Jagung Bridge Season 2' at the Jangjo Theme Performance Hall attract great interest every year. Tour programs like 'Walking Through History at Suwon Hwaseong' and 'Following in Jeongjo's Footsteps' are perfect for family and couples to enjoy while walking along the fortress walls and listening to historical stories.

◇Assessing the level of Korean wine... 'Gwangmyeong Cave Korea Wine Festival'

Gwangmyeong Cave Korea Wine Festival features participation from 49 wineries nationwide and offers a variety of programs and experiences that showcase the charm of domestic wines. A large-scale wine-making performance using fresh fruits is held, and a contest is conducted to select the most unique Korean wine label. Each winery booth offers wine tastings and sales, and visitors can enjoy specialized programs such as wine foot baths and wine soap making. Gwangmyeong Cave, visited by 1.5 million people annually, is a modern industrial heritage site and is recognized as a representative tourist destination in Gyeonggi Province. It maintains a temperature suitable for wine storage year-round, earning it the nickname of a natural wine cellar, allowing visitors to experience the level of Korean wines.

The charm of Hwaseong... 'Jeongjo Hyo Culture Festival'

The Jeongjo Hyo Culture Festival is a celebration that commemorates King Jeongjo's filial piety towards his father, Crown Prince Sado, and reflects on the historical significance and value of the Jeongjo era in Joseon. Additionally, it offers a unique opportunity to experience the Yonggungneung, one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of the Joseon Royal Tombs, through special performances and activities. Starting from this festival, the course of the joint reenactment of King Jeongjo's royal procession from Hwasung to Yonggungneung has been changed from Dongan New Town to Jeongjo Hyo Park, including the Hyeonreung section. This change aims to encourage more citizens to participate and to reflect on the meaning of King Jeongjo's royal visit to Eulmyo. The festival also features various attractions such as the night procession reenactment of Hyeonreung, a drone show expressing the longing between father and son, and a respectful event called 'Yangno-yeon.'

◇Experience the charm of the Heyri Art District... 'Heyri Pan Festival'

It is a comprehensive arts festival that represents the identity of the Gyeonggi-do Cultural District Heyri. PAN stands for "spreading the board of art," and it embodies the theme of the 2024 Heyri Pan Festival, "Three Roads (Peace, Art, Nature)." The festival is a celebration where artists from various fields such as visual arts, music, and architecture engage in cultural and artistic activities, expressing the message of peace, art, and nature that Heyri pursues. The festival begins with the opening performance by the Heyri Symphony Orchestra, followed by various programs including an outdoor film festival, music festival, Heyri Art Fair, and Heyri Art Pop-up. Participating in yoga meditation classes and running classes, as well as visiting the direct trade market, Hatbitjangdo, are also recommended.

The Fragrance of Practical Learning... 'Jeong Yak-yong Cultural Festival'

The Jeong Yak-yong Cultural Festival is a historical, cultural, and humanistic festival that modernly inherits the ideas and spirit of Jeong Yak-yong, a practical scholar of Joseon. Every year, it brings together local residents at the Jeong Yak-yong Historic Site in Namyangju, which includes his birthplace, tomb, cultural center, and memorial hall, as well as Dasan Ecological Park. The festival begins with the 'Hyeonhwa Hyeondaerye,' a ritual of lighting incense and offering drinks, followed by humanities programs such as the 'Literary Contest' and 'Challenge for the Top Scholar,' along with various cultural and artistic performances. It also features diverse experiential programs like tea culture experiences, Dasan Playground, children's yoga, and practical learning activities. At Dasan Ecological Park, visitors can enjoy a picnic while exploring the 'Forest Bookstore' and 'Reading Garden' with their families.

◇ The peak of autumn silver grass... 'Pocheon Sanjeong Lake Myeongseong Mountain Silver Grass Flower Festival'

Enjoy a refreshing hike while admiring the breathtaking view of Sanjeong Lake, and experience the charming autumn festival at Myeongseong Mountain Silver Grass Flower Festival, where vast fields of silver grass can be seen. The main festival site, located at Sanjeong Lake Sangdong Parking Lot and around the lake, features an accessible walking trail around the lake, nighttime lighting, and a musical fountain. The festival's flagship programs include 'Letters Received a Year Later,' 'A Silver Grass Day,' 'Silver Grass Life Photo Zone,' 'Proposal in the Silver Grass Field,' and 'Laughter Contest,' with over 20 events across five categories. It takes about an hour to travel from the main festival area to the silver grass fields on Myeongseong Mountain, where the silver grass blooms abundantly.
