I have had very severe menstrual cramps since I was 20 years old.
I was experiencing nausea and vomiting symptoms when my period was about to start.
So, I went to the obstetrics and gynecology clinic every month.
I went to the obstetrics and gynecology clinic, received painkillers and prescription medication, and took them, so I was able to endure it somehow.
These days, my menstrual cramps have improved a lot.
Menstrual pain symptoms
Primary dysmenorrhea begins a few hours before or just prior to the onset of menstruation, originating above the pubic area, and can last for 2 to 3 days.
The cause of primary dysmenorrhea is excessive contraction of the uterine muscles, similar to labor pains during childbirth.
Pain in the tailbone (coccyx) area may be accompanied by or extend to the front of the thigh, and symptoms such as vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea may also occur. In rare cases, it can lead to fainting.
The pain associated with primary dysmenorrhea is different from pain caused by intra-abdominal inflammation, and it has a cramping pattern that can often be alleviated by pelvic massage or physical activity.
Methods to Relieve Menstrual Cramps
1. Keep the stomach warm.
It's good to keep your stomach warm when you have menstrual cramps.
I am using a hot pack that sticks on.
Sticking on a hot pack is comfortable and helpful even while sleeping.
Hot packs should be applied on cloth.
Be careful of low-temperature burns.
2. Light stretching
It's good to move lightly during your period.
I am doing some stretching.
I think I experienced a lot of stretching benefits while doing Pilates.
So, during my period, I relax my body with stretches I learned at home.
3. Wearing comfortable clothes.
I always feel comfortable wearing casual clothes.
I usually wear comfortable clothes because tight-fitting clothes are said to be bad for the body.
Tight clothing during menstruation can press on the abdomen, which is not good for menstrual cramps, and it can also intensify the characteristic smell of menstrual blood.
Eating foods that are good for menstrual pain
There is seaweed that helps dissolve blood stasis accumulated in the uterus during menstrual cramps.
I am boiling a generous amount of seaweed soup and freezing it to eat later.
I like that I can easily defrost and eat it whenever I want.
Pomegranate helps to balance hormones; it is said to be good for alleviating premenstrual troubles.
I heard that ginger, which warms the body, is good, so I am drinking ginger extract diluted in water.
During menstruation, bananas can boost energy and reduce pain, while peanuts, rich in fatty acids and promoting blood circulation, help prevent blood stasis.
And warm tea or water helps with menstrual cramps.
Try a cup of ginger tea by mixing ginger extract in warm water.
Try to overcome menstrual pain well.
