가고 싶네요 비행기 타고 해외로~~~ㅎ
During the holiday season, many people take advantage of the holiday to travel abroad. In fact, according to statistics compiled by Fox News, more than 119 million people travel between Christmas and New Year's each year. Dry cabin air and prolonged sitting can have negative health effects, so it's important to take care of your health even on airplanes. Let's learn about some helpful tips for staying healthy while flying.
◇Drink enough water
The humidity inside an airplane is maintained at a very low level of 10-20%. This is much less than the amount of moisture our bodies normally absorb from the air, so it's important to drink plenty of water. This will help prevent dry skin and itchy throats and noses. Drinking water on board can also help prevent aerosolized otitis media (AOM). Aerosolized otitis media (AOM) is a condition characterized by earaches, ringing, and tinnitus during takeoff and landing. It occurs due to a problem with the Eustachian tube, which balances the air pressure inside and outside the ear. Swallowing water allows ventilation of the inner eardrum through the Eustachian tube, which can help prevent AOM and alleviate symptoms. Avoid coffee, tea, carbonated beverages, and alcohol, as they actually dehydrate the body.
◇Take nasal medication in advance or eat gum or candy
People who suffer from severe aerotitis media every time they fly are advised to take nasal medication beforehand. Aerotitis media symptoms are particularly severe in those with underlying conditions such as rhinitis or sinusitis. Antihistamines dry up the exudate (fluid) that causes aerotitis media and inhibit vasodilation, while pseudoephedrine constricts dilated blood vessels, reducing swelling in the ear. If you are unable to take nasal medication, chewing gum, candy, or wearing earplugs can help. If symptoms of aerotitis media appear, pinching your nose with your thumb and index finger, closing your mouth, and gently breathing as if blowing your nose will help equalize the pressure inside the ear and improve symptoms.
◇Stretch often
Sitting in the same position for long periods on an airplane increases the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which occurs when blood clots form and block the arteries in the legs due to poor blood circulation. This condition is also known as "economy class syndrome," as it occurs frequently in passengers who sit in a fixed position for long periods in cramped economy class seats. To prevent DVT, it's recommended to frequently raise and lower your heels during the flight, walk down the aisle, or massage and stretch your legs to relieve stagnant blood flow.
◇Use a neck pillow or lumbar cushion
Maintaining good posture while sitting on an airplane seat is crucial. Poor posture can increase pressure on the spine, leading to pain. Sit with your buttocks deep in the seat and your back straight. Using a lumbar cushion or neck pillow can help reduce stress on the neck and spine.
◇ Bring a travel first aid kit
It's also important to carry a travel first aid kit. Access to medical care in an unfamiliar country can be limited, and language barriers can hinder quick response to health issues. Prepare pain relievers, fever reducers, digestive aids, wound care supplies (bandages, gauze, disinfectants), a thermometer, and motion sickness medication. It's essential to check the expiration date of medications and the import restrictions of the country you're traveling to.
