맞아요. 먼지와 땀으로 세균이 번식하기도 좋은환경이예요 자주세탁만큼 좋은것도없지요
Since you sleep with your face against your pillow every night, it's crucial to keep it clean. If you don't wash your pillow properly, dust mites and bacteria can breed, negatively affecting not only your skin but also other parts of your body, so be careful.
◇ Pillows that shed waste... have more bacteria than toilets
While we sleep, hair, dust, dead skin cells, and other impurities accumulate on our pillows without our knowledge. If not removed or brushed away promptly, these particles can easily become a breeding ground for dust mites. Dead skin cells and impurities are a favorite food source for dust mites. Dust mites are allergens that can invade the skin and respiratory tract mucosa, triggering contact dermatitis like acne, hives, and eczema. They can also trigger respiratory diseases like asthma and rhinitis.
Pillows are also full of germs. They become damp and easily contaminated with sweat and saliva while sleeping, and if not properly maintained, they can become overrun with bacteria. A study by the Department of Life Sciences at Seoul National University found that pillows harbor 96 times more bacteria than toilet seats, along with mold and mites. Furthermore, a study from the University of Chester in the UK found that after a week of not washing a pillowcase, it can harbor 17,000 more bacteria than a toilet seat. These contaminants can cause respiratory diseases like asthma and rhinitis, and can even trigger acne.
◇Wash once every 1-2 weeks
It's recommended to wash your pillowcase at least once every one to two weeks. If frequent washing isn't feasible, you should knock it outside daily or shake it thoroughly to remove dead skin cells and dust. Dust mites are sensitive to shock, so knocking can remove about 70% of them. It's also recommended to dry it in the sun for at least 30 minutes once a week. The same goes for duvet covers.
Replacing your pillow regularly is also helpful. Latex or memory foam pillows should be replaced every three to four years, polyester pillows every two to three years, and buckwheat pillows every one to two years. However, if the pillow height has dropped or its neck support has diminished, it's a good idea to replace it, regardless of age. High humidity also encourages dust mite growth. It's best to keep the indoor temperature between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius and the humidity below 50%. Frequent indoor ventilation is also essential.
