I have a health checkup every year and my intraocular pressure is high.

I had a glaucoma test because I heard that if you have high intraocular pressure, you are more likely to develop glaucoma.

Normal intraocular pressure should be less than 20mmhg, but my results were 22 (left)/25 (right).

I was told that my intraocular pressure can temporarily be high due to my condition, so I visited the ophthalmologist again two weeks later.

My intraocular pressure came back high, so I was told that it would be a good idea to get tested for glaucoma, so I got tested for glaucoma.

I have high intraocular pressure, but there is no problem with my optic nerve.

They said that people with thick corneas may have high intraocular pressure, and that my corneas are a bit thick.

And I had a visual field test.

They cover one eye and do a visual field test with each eye. They stare at one spot and when a surrounding light appears, they measure how much light they see by pressing a switch. It was really difficult because I had to focus on detecting the surrounding light for about 15 minutes, my eyes got tired, and the surrounding lights were dim, dark, and blinked quickly, so there was an optical illusion of the timing of pressing the switch and the surrounding lights being visible. I think it took about 20-30 minutes to test both eyes.

Other glaucoma tests are performed by machines, but the visual field test requires the examiner to measure the entire test, which is very tiring and difficult.

Some people pass the visual field test on the first try, but many don't, requiring repeated testing. I also had to return to the ophthalmologist because my first test didn't go well.

I was told that one eye was doing well on the test, but the other eye wasn't getting accurate results. They said they were seeing more light than they should, so the visual field test wasn't going well...

As a result, the optic nerve was normal, but the visual field test was not properly measured, so it was decided to treat intraocular pressure.

They said that if you have high blood pressure, there is a slightly higher chance of developing glaucoma, so they suggested that you try treating high blood pressure first.

 

 

When treating high blood pressure, the first step is to use eye drops.

Put eye drops in your eyes twice a day, with a 12-hour gap between each use.

Eye drops are a white, viscous liquid that can cause a temporary stinging sensation when applied to the eyes, and vision may become cloudy after application.

And after putting in eye drops, your eyes may feel bloodshot for about 1-2 hours.

There are many types of eye drops used to treat high blood pressure, so if you experience side effects, you can get a prescription for a different eye drop.

 

 

When treating high blood pressure or glaucoma, eye drops are often given priority at first.

I used Ellazope eye drops to treat high blood pressure, and my intraocular pressure went down.

Usually, you only go to an ophthalmologist when you have an eye problem. Since high intraocular pressure (IOP) doesn't cause any symptoms, in my case, I was tested for glaucoma during a health checkup because my intraocular pressure was high, and I ended up receiving treatment for it. In Korea, it is said that glaucoma is more common in people with normal intraocular pressure than in people with high pressure.

So, they said that starting in your 40s, it is a good idea to go to an ophthalmologist and get regular glaucoma tests.

Glaucoma is a disease that can lead to blindness, so if glaucoma is suspected in the early stages, testing and treatment are usually effective in treating the condition or slowing down the progression of glaucoma.

To maintain eye health, get regular eye exams in advance.
