Precautions

This medication is primarily used to treat mental health issues such as depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder. It may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, particularly in young people aged 18 to 24, so caution is warranted when prescribing to this age group. There is a risk of a serious side effect called serotonin syndrome which can be life-threatening, characterized by symptoms such as agitation, hallucinations, high fever, muscle rigidity, nausea, and vomiting. Concomitant use of this drug with certain other medications, especially MAO inhibitors or drugs that enhance serotonin function, can increase risks, so it is essential to consult a physician. Patients with significantly impaired liver function, those allergic to this medication, or those taking specific other medications should not use this drug. Patients with epilepsy or mildly impaired liver function need to be closely monitored for an increased risk of seizures when using this drug. Patients with angle-closure glaucoma or a history of glaucoma should be cautious, as this medication could increase eye pressure. During treatment, various side effects may occur, including sedation, dizziness, headaches, insomnia, anxiety, appetite changes, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Especially during the initial dosage or any changes in dosing, mental changes such as thoughts or behaviors related to suicide, aggression, and anxiety should be observed carefully, and family members or caregivers should also be attentive. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their doctor adequately, as the use of this drug may affect the fetus or newborn. Abruptly stopping this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as dizziness, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, so dosages should be gradually reduced under a doctor's guidance. In case of overdose, symptoms such as cardiac arrhythmias, drowsiness, vomiting, tremors, or coma may appear, requiring immediate emergency treatment. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and it is advised not to transfer it to other containers. Additionally, during treatment, it is preferable not to consume alcohol or other CNS depressant medications together. Furthermore, as there are many medications that could interact with this drug, inform healthcare personnel if you are taking other medications.
