Precautions

This drug contains the ingredients sitagliptin and metformin and is used for diabetes treatment. First, caution should be taken for allergic reactions when taking this medication. Rarely, anaphylaxis, angioedema, and severe skin diseases may occur, so if any unusual symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately and consult your doctor. Acute pancreatitis has also been reported, so if symptoms such as abdominal pain or vomiting occur during treatment, notify healthcare professionals immediately. The metformin component can cause lactic acidosis, a serious side effect, so patients with impaired kidney function or liver dysfunction should not take this drug. In particular, patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction, acute heart failure, myocardial infarction, severe infections, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should refrain from using this medication. There are also patients for whom this drug must be administered cautiously. For instance, if you have irregular eating habits or suddenly increase physical activity, or if you are taking other medications, be aware that the risk of hypoglycemia or lactic acidosis may increase. While taking this medication, pay attention to symptoms of hypoglycemia, especially when combined with other antihyperglycemic agents like insulin or sulfonylureas, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase; therefore, blood sugar levels should be checked frequently. In addition, this drug requires regular monitoring of liver and kidney function. There could be a risk of Vitamin B12 deficiency, hence regular blood tests are necessary. Excessive drinking should be avoided during treatment, as it may increase the risk of side effects from this drug. Before undergoing surgery or tests using radiographic contrast agents, temporarily discontinue this medication, and after confirming normal kidney function post-test, resume treatment. Finally, safety for children under 18 years of age and for pregnant or breastfeeding women has not been established, thus it is advisable not to use this drug in those groups. Please adhere to the precautions outlined above during treatment and consult healthcare professionals immediately if you experience any unusual symptoms for safe treatment.
