Improvement in blood sugar control for type 2 diabetes
This medicine is used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood sugar. It can be effectively managed when used together with therapeutic methods such as diet control and exercise. The two ingredients, sitagliptin and metformin, work together to lower and control blood sugar. This helps in preventing complications caused by diabetes. Therefore, this medication is used to improve blood sugar control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
The 100/1000 mg sustained-release tablet should be taken once daily, one tablet at a time. Patients taking the 50/500 mg sustained-release tablet or the 50/1000 mg sustained-release tablet should take two tablets at once once daily. 1. For patients who are not currently being treated with metformin: The initial dose is a total daily amount of 100 mg sitagliptin and 1000 mg metformin. The metformin dose may then be gradually increased.
This medicine contains sitagliptin and metformin and is used for the treatment of diabetes. Serious allergic reactions may occur during the use of this medicine, so if rashes, hives, difficulty in breathing, or swelling of the face or lips occur, stop taking the medicine immediately and inform your healthcare provider. There is a possibility of acute pancreatitis, which is inflammation of the pancreas, so consult a doctor immediately if abdominal pain, vomiting, or severe abdominal pain occurs. This medicine should not be administered to patients with impaired kidney function, acute heart disease, severe infections, or dehydration. In particular, the medication should be temporarily discontinued before and after tests using iodine contrast agents, resuming only after confirming normal kidney function. It is not safe for pregnant women or women who may become pregnant, and lactating women should avoid this medication. Elderly patients or those with compromised kidney function should adjust the dosage and have regular kidney function tests. During the use of this medication, be aware of signs of hypoglycemia, especially when used in conjunction with insulin or sulfonylurea medications, as the risk of hypoglycemia may increase. Due to the metformin component, there is a rare risk of lactic acidosis, a serious metabolic disorder, so if symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle pain, weakness, or difficulty breathing occur, inform a healthcare provider immediately. This medication is not recommended for patients with liver dysfunction, and excessive alcohol consumption should be avoided as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis. Additionally, the use of this medicine may decrease vitamin B12 levels, necessitating regular blood tests for monitoring. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue this medication 48 hours prior to the surgery and may resume after confirming that they can consume orally and that kidney function is normal. This medicine may interact with several other medications, so if you are taking other medications, be sure to inform your healthcare provider and closely monitor blood sugar control. Finally, the safety and efficacy of this medicine have not been established in children under 18 years of age, so it should not be administered to pediatric patients.
