Improvement of cholesterol and lipids in hypercholesterolemia (primary, mixed) and dyslipidemia
This drug is used as an adjunct to diet for lowering elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B protein, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol levels in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, and for raising HDL cholesterol levels. Particularly, it is administered in cases of abnormally elevated blood lipid levels in conjunction with diet to aid in the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Before starting this medication, it is essential to identify other conditions that may cause dyslipidemia, such as diabetes and hypothyroidism, and to provide necessary treatments. Additionally, to ensure safe treatment, regular checks of various lipid levels are required, and especially during acute coronary events, rapid lipid testing is crucial. This drug is used alongside an appropriate diet and is helpful in treating hypercholesterolemia and dyslipidemia when improvements are difficult with diet alone.
This drug is administered once daily, regardless of meals. The dosage range is 10/10mg to 10/40mg per day. A starting dose of 10/10mg or 10/20mg is recommended. For patients requiring more significant reductions in LDL cholesterol, the dosage may be adjusted. After starting treatment or adjusting the dosage, lipid levels should be checked at intervals of at least 2 weeks for dosage adjustment.
This drug can cause a rare side effect of rhabdomyolysis, which may lead to acute renal failure. Therefore, if symptoms of severe muscle pain or muscle weakness occur, inform a doctor immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with known allergies to the active ingredients or excipients, severely impaired liver function, muscle diseases, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant, nursing mothers, patients taking specific antiviral agents, and patients with lactose intolerance. Patients with a history of liver disease or alcohol abuse, those with impaired kidney function, hypothyroidism, elderly patients, and those at high risk of myopathy should use this drug cautiously with regular tests and monitoring. During treatment with this drug, side effects such as liver dysfunction, muscle pain, muscle weakness, digestive disorders, headaches, dizziness, hypertension, diabetes, etc., may occur, so consult a doctor if any abnormal symptoms arise. This drug may interact with other medications, so it is essential to inform the doctor when taking drugs that affect liver metabolism or those that influence muscles, and dosage adjustments or cessation of use may be necessary. Pregnant or nursing women should not use this medication, and women of childbearing age should employ appropriate contraceptive methods while taking it. The safety and efficacy of this drug in children have not been established, therefore it is not recommended. Elderly individuals should be cautious due to the increased risk of myopathy while using this medication. This drug should not be used in patients with severely impaired liver function or active liver disease. In case of overdose, as there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment and supportive care based on symptoms should be provided, and regular liver function and muscle-related tests should be conducted.
