This medication helps improve symptoms in adult patients with atherosclerotic conditions such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral artery disease. It is also used to prevent cardiovascular complications and improve symptoms in patients with acute coronary syndrome, such as unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction, after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Additionally, it is effective in patients with atrial fibrillation who have multiple vascular risk factors and for whom vitamin K antagonist therapy is not appropriate, reducing the risk of stroke, atherothrombosis, and thromboembolism. This efficacy plays an important role in improving patients' cardiovascular health.

Precautions

This medication is a drug that prevents platelets from aggregating, thereby preventing blood clotting. Individuals with a genetic deficiency in specific enzymes (CYP2C19) may experience reduced efficacy of this medication, and such individuals should consult their physician to consider alternative treatment options. Taking this medication with drugs that activate these enzymes may increase the risk of bleeding, so it is advisable not to take them together. Patients who are allergic to this medication or its components or those with bleeding, severely impaired liver function, women who are breastfeeding, and those with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance should not take this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding or those with coagulation disorders and patients scheduled for surgery should take this medication with caution, and it may be necessary to discontinue the medication for a certain period before surgery. If symptoms of bleeding or abnormalities in blood appear during treatment, it is crucial to inform medical personnel immediately. The risk of bleeding may increase when this medication is taken with other drugs that also pose a bleeding risk, so caution is necessary during concurrent use. Pregnant women should not delay treatment for serious cardiovascular diseases, though the effects on the fetus are unclear, and it is advisable to discontinue administration for a certain period before delivery due to bleeding risks. Breastfeeding women should consult their physician regarding the impact of this medication potentially entering breast milk and affecting the infant. The safety and efficacy in children have not yet been established. Elderly patients are at an increased risk of bleeding due to decreased bodily functions, so caution is warranted, and their condition should be monitored closely. In the case of overdose, the risk of bleeding may increase, so it is important to adhere to the prescribed dosage, and any unusual symptoms should be discussed with a healthcare professional immediately. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children, and it is advisable to avoid transferring it to other containers, as it may affect the quality of the drug.
