Lipid improvement by reducing LDL-cholesterol and increasing HDL-cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia (primary, homozygous familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia
This medication is used as an adjunct to dietary therapy to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, ApoB, and triglycerides, and to increase HDL-cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed hyperlipidemia. It can also be administered to patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments are insufficient or additional therapy is needed. This drug should be used alongside a diet restricting saturated fats and cholesterol, and when there is inadequate response to dietary and non-pharmacological measures. Prior to treatment, other causes of dyslipidemia should be identified and treated if necessary, and regular lipid tests should be conducted to monitor treatment effectiveness. This medication contributes to reducing the risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease associated with hypercholesterolemia. Therefore, it is used to effectively improve total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol levels.
This medication is administered once daily in the evening, regardless of meals. The dosage range for patients with primary hypercholesterolemia is 10/10 mg to 10/40 mg per day, with the commonly recommended initial dosage being 10/20 mg per day. Patients who need less reduction in LDL-cholesterol can start with 10/10 mg per day. The recommended dosage for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia is 10/40 mg per day.
This medication may cause muscle-related side effects such as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis. The risk of these side effects increases as the dosage of the drug rises, making caution particularly necessary when taking high doses. If symptoms such as muscle pain, muscle weakness, or unexplained muscular pain occur, inform your doctor immediately. Additionally, this drug may affect liver function; therefore, it should not be administered to patients with liver disease or elevated liver enzyme levels. Pregnant or nursing women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should consult a physician before use. This drug may interact with certain medications to increase the risk of myopathy, so inform your healthcare provider of any other medications you are taking. Caution is needed especially when used in combination with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, fibrates, certain antibiotics, and anticoagulants. Elderly patients and those with hypothyroidism or renal impairment should be carefully observed while taking this medication. Regular blood tests are recommended to monitor liver function and muscle enzyme levels during treatment. Additionally, if a new medication is started while on this drug, inform your healthcare provider that you are currently taking it. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote available, so immediate medical attention should be sought. This medication has not been adequately studied for safety and efficacy in children and adolescents, thus should be used cautiously and according to a doctor's instructions if necessary.
