Effectiveness in fluid control and waste removal in patients with chronic renal failure.
Peritoneal dialysis solution is used to remove waste products and excess fluid from the body of patients with chronic renal failure. This treatment is effective for patients with diminished kidney function and acts as an alternative or adjunct to hemodialysis. Through peritoneal dialysis solution, electrolyte balance in the patient's body can be maintained and excess fluid can be controlled. It also helps improve the quality of life for patients. This medication is used for the treatment of chronic renal failure.
This medication is administered strictly intraperitoneally, typically by injecting 2000 mL into the abdominal cavity four times a day and draining it after 2-10 hours. Dosage is individually adjusted according to the patient’s needs, and in case of abdominal pain due to peritoneal distension, the infusion amount can be reduced to 500-1500 mL per session. For patients with no residual renal function and larger physique, the dosage may be increased, and for such patients or those who tolerate larger infusion volumes well, it can be increased up to 2500 mL per session.
For pediatrics, the dosage should be adjusted based on age, physique, and weight (30-40 mL/kg).
This medication is an electrolyte solution used in the treatment that replaces kidney function through peritoneal dialysis. Care must be taken as early termination of peritoneal dialysis can threaten life if no alternative renal replacement therapy is available. It should not be used in patients with severe hypokalemia or hypercalcemia, hypotension, recent abdominal surgery or injury, abdominal inflammation or perforation. Administration should also be avoided in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, peritonitis, abdominal hernias, intestinal obstruction, pneumonia, sepsis, severe hyperlipidemia, and severe weight loss. Additionally, this medication should not be used in patients who cannot undergo peritoneal dialysis as directed by a physician. Caution should be taken when administering to patients with electrolyte loss due to vomiting or diarrhea, those with hypercalcemia, patients taking digitalis preparations, patients using diuretics, and diabetic patients. In particular, serum potassium levels should be regularly monitored, and potassium-containing peritoneal dialysis solutions should be adjusted as necessary. This medication is generally well tolerated as an electrolyte solution similar to blood; however, adverse reactions such as electrolyte imbalance, fluid imbalance, increased blood sugar, hyperlipidemia, and weight gain may occur. Peritoneal dialysis-related complications such as peritonitis, catheter infection, diarrhea, constipation, dyspnea, hernias, abdominal bloating, shoulder pain, and encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis may also appear; immediate consultation with medical personnel is required if symptoms occur. During peritoneal dialysis, proteins and vitamins may be lost, so proper nutritional intake and supplementation are required. Long-term use may lead to decreased peritoneal function, so regular evaluation and treatment adjustments may be necessary. Various indicators, including weight, serum electrolyte levels, kidney function, and blood glucose, should be monitored periodically to detect and manage any abnormal signs promptly. This medication may interact with other drugs; caution is needed, especially when used in conjunction with medications containing calcium or vitamin D, as hypercalcemia may occur. Safety data are insufficient for patients during pregnancy or breastfeeding; caution should be exercised in such cases, and dosage should be adjusted based on weight and age in pediatrics. Elderly patients may have an increased risk of hernias, which should be considered prior to peritoneal dialysis. In cases of overdose, excessive fluid in the peritoneum can be easily drained, but frequent dialysis can lead to dehydration or electrolyte imbalance, necessitating immediate medical attention. When using, the mixed dialysis solution should be used within 24 hours, and the condition of the container or turbidity of the liquid must be checked. Aseptic handling of the dialysis solution is essential to reduce the risk of infection, and designated medications may only be added aseptically if necessary. This medication should be stored out of reach of children, and any remaining dialysis solution should not be reused. Effects on driving or operating machinery are negligible or minimal. This medication helps remove waste products from the blood and regulate fluid levels, and the dosage and composition should be tailored to the individual to enhance therapeutic effects.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture, and it is best kept in a cool place between 4 to 25 degrees Celsius. Avoid direct sunlight and do not store it in excessively hot or cold places, as this is important for maintaining the medication's effectiveness.
Before mixing (Solution A, Solution B): Colorless and transparent peritoneal dialysis solution in a colorless and transparent plastic container. After mixing (Mixed Solution): A colorless and transparent liquid that is separated into two spaces by a single membrane.
