This medication is used to relieve peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment in patients with epilepsy for partial seizures, effective with or without secondary generalized symptoms. It is applied in the treatment of fibromyalgia and helps improve symptoms. It is used to treat major conditions like neuropathic pain, epilepsy, and fibromyalgia.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is pregabalin, taken orally without regard to food, divided into two doses for a total daily dosage. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dosage of 150 mg daily with possible increase to 300 mg daily within 3 to 7 days; if necessary, an increase up to a maximum of 600 mg daily can be made every 7 days. 2) Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dosage of 150 mg daily.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior; therefore, if symptoms of depression, mood changes, or abnormal behavior occur during treatment, consult a physician immediately. This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to its components or certain genetic metabolic disorders. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain after taking this drug, which may require adjustment of their blood glucose control medications. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling around the face or mouth, occur due to hypersensitivity, ingestion must be stopped immediately. Elderly patients may experience increased dizziness or drowsiness when taking this medication, so caution is advised until they become accustomed to its effects. This drug may cause blurred vision or changes in eyesight; consult a physician if these symptoms occur. Withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may occur upon discontinuation; thus, it is advised to taper off according to medical personnel's instructions. Due to the risk of drug abuse, patients with a history of substance abuse should be monitored more carefully. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dosage adjustments of this medication. Patients with heart failure or cardiovascular diseases should use this drug cautiously. When taken with opioid analgesics, there is a risk of central nervous system depression, so caution is advised. Patients with respiratory diseases, renal impairment, or the elderly may require dosage adjustments due to the risk of severe respiratory depression. This medication can cause dizziness and drowsiness, and thus driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided during treatment. This medication is primarily excreted through urine, and while pharmacokinetic interactions with other drugs are minimal, caution is required if taken together with central nervous system depressants. During pregnancy, there is a potential risk to the fetus, so it should only be administered when necessary, and fertile women should use effective contraception. This medication is excreted in breast milk, so careful consideration is needed regarding breastfeeding and administration of the drug. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, or depression may occur, and treatments such as dialysis may be necessary if required.
