Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to this drug or its components, or who have had hypersensitivity reactions to Valaciclovir. Patients with poor renal function should be cautious when using this medication as nervous system side effects may appear more frequently. Patients with impaired liver function should use this medication carefully, as it may worsen liver function. Children and infants require special care when using this drug, and if necessary, it should be used cautiously at the minimum dosage. Elderly patients are more likely to have reduced renal function, potentially leading to higher blood concentrations of this drug. Therefore, careful adjustment of the dosage and administration intervals is necessary. rarely, severe allergic reactions including anaphylactic shock can occur with this medication. If symptoms such as decreased blood pressure, difficulty breathing, or chest tightness occur, immediate discontinuation of the drug and urgent medical treatment are required. Skin reactions such as rashes, fever, blisters, and hives can occur, and if such symptoms develop, the use of the drug should be discontinued. There is a risk of severe skin conditions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis, so immediate consultation with a physician is required if skin abnormalities occur. This medication can cause various neurological and psychiatric side effects, including disturbances in consciousness, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, drowsiness, and tremors, particularly in the elderly and those with reduced renal function. If renal function declines, kidney-related abnormalities such as renal failure, hematuria, and proteinuria may occur, so renal status should be checked periodically. This medication can also affect the blood and lymphatic system, leading to changes in white blood cell counts, bleeding, and anemia. Any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare personnel. There may be liver-related side effects such as liver dysfunction, jaundice, and hepatitis, so regular liver function tests are advised. Gastrointestinal issues such as gastritis, constipation, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur, and if these symptoms are severe, consultation with a doctor should follow. Systemic symptoms such as fever, peripheral edema, pallor, fatigue, and headache may occur, so changes in body condition should be carefully monitored. Musculoskeletal symptoms such as myalgia or arthralgia may occur. This medication may also affect the heart and blood vessels, leading to arrhythmias, blood pressure changes, and chest pain, so caution is advised in patients with cardiovascular disease. Urinary issues may arise, such as difficulty urinating or obstructed urination, and any unusual symptoms should be reported. Adequate hydration is crucial when using this medication, especially when dosed at high levels to prevent dehydration. It is most effective to start treatment within 5 days for herpes simplex and chickenpox and within 7 days for shingles, as soon as symptoms appear. Immunocompromised patients may consider intravenous treatment forms. Long-term users of this medication should periodically assess treatment efficacy and side effects. Caution is necessary during potentially hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery due to possible side effects like disturbances in consciousness or drowsiness. Interactions may occur when used with other medications, especially those affecting the kidneys or certain drugs, increasing the risk of side effects. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider the risks and benefits of using this medication, and breastfeeding should be discontinued as the drug may pass into breast milk.
