Effects in seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (prevention), nasal polyps (improvement), and acute sinusitis (treatment)
This medication is used for alleviating symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial rhinitis in children over 2 years of age and adults. Especially for patients with moderate to severe seasonal allergic rhinitis, it can be taken preventively 2 to 4 weeks before pollen starts to fly. Additionally, it is effective in treating nasal polyps in adults over 18 years of age. It also helps relieve symptoms of acute sinusitis in adolescents over 12 years and adults. This medication is used to improve symptoms of various rhinitis and sinus diseases.
For allergic rhinitis, adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older should use 2 sprays in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.2 mg). When symptoms are relieved, the maintenance dose may be reduced to 1 spray in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.1 mg). It is possible to increase the dose to a maximum of 4 sprays in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.4 mg), and the dose should be reduced when symptoms are relieved.
For allergic rhinitis, children aged 2 to 11 years should use 1 spray in each nostril once a day (total daily dose 0.1 mg).
This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who are allergic to this drug or its components, patients with untreated infections of the nasal mucosa, those who have recently undergone nasal surgery or have wounds in the nasal area, and children under 2 years of age should not use this medication. There are also patients who require caution in using this medication. Patients with active or latent tuberculosis, systemic infections, ocular herpes, those who frequently experience nosebleeds, patients who may have been exposed to chickenpox or measles, those with specific nasal diseases, and women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should use this medication with caution. Using this medication may lead to various side effects such as headaches, viral infections, pharyngitis, nosebleeds, coughing, and upper respiratory infections. Some patients may experience side effects severe enough to discontinue the medication, so caution is necessary. Rarely, serious hypersensitivity reactions such as allergic reactions or anaphylaxis may occur; in such cases, the use should be stopped immediately and a physician consulted. Long-term high-dose use may lead to systemic side effects, and regular examinations are necessary to check for changes in the nasal mucosa. Moreover, if symptoms of infection worsen or new symptoms appear, medical advice should be sought immediately. This medication may pose risks to both the fetus and the mother during pregnancy, so it should only be used after consultation with a physician, and caution is also advised for breastfeeding women. When administering this medication to children, there is a risk of growth delays, so regular monitoring of growth status is necessary, and caution is advised against using this medication in children under 2 years of age due to unconfirmed safety. In the elderly, it should be used carefully, considering the decline in physical function. This medication may interact with other drugs; caution is advised, especially when used in conjunction with CYP3A4 inhibitors, as this may increase the risk of systemic side effects. Before use, the container should be shaken well, and a test spray should be performed, taking care not to spray directly into the eyes or the nasal septum. Keep out of reach of children, and in case of overdose, observation rather than specific treatment is necessary. If blurriness or visual impairment occurs, consult an ophthalmologist immediately. There are no reports of effects on driving or operating machinery, but caution should be exercised if unusual symptoms occur.
