This medication is used as an adjunct to diet to lower blood levels of total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, Apo B, triglycerides, and non-HDL cholesterol, and to increase HDL cholesterol in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia. For patients at high risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease due to hypercholesterolemia, it must be administered in conjunction with dietary measures and used when non-pharmacological treatments are insufficient. Before administering this drug, secondary causes such as diabetes, hypothyroidism, and chronic renal failure must be assessed and treated if necessary. During treatment, lipid tests including total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, and triglycerides should be conducted, especially when triglyceride levels are high, accurate LDL cholesterol measurements should be obtained. Furthermore, in the event of acute coronary incidents, lipid testing at the time of hospitalization should inform the treatment plan. Thus, this medication helps lower the risk of cardiovascular disease by improving cholesterol and lipid levels.
