Bowel cleansing effect for pre-colonoscopy preparation
This medication is used to clean the bowel before X-ray or endoscopy examinations. Please remember that it is not used for constipation treatment. By removing waste from the intestine for examination, it helps to ensure accurate diagnosis. Therefore, it assists in safely and effectively emptying the bowel before the test.
On the evening before the test, consume the entire prepared solution and fill a previously empty container with water to the indicated line (about 473mL) and drink it twice over 1 hour. On the morning of the test day, prepare and consume the second solution in full and fill a previously empty container with water to the indicated line (about 473mL) and drink it twice over 1 hour. Complete the medication and additional water intake at least 2 hours before the examination or by the time instructed by the doctor.
This medication contains the artificial sweetener Aspartame, which is broken down into Phenylalanine in the body. Therefore, patients with the hereditary condition known as Phenylketonuria should not use this medication. The daily intake of Aspartame should be kept below the WHO recommended amount, and adults should be careful not to exceed a maximum of 2.4g per day. Patients who have hypersensitivity to this medication or its components, or those with specific diseases such as gastrointestinal obstruction, gastric stasis, intestinal obstruction, toxic colitis, severe renal impairment, or heart failure should not be administered this medication. Patients with severe fluid abnormalities, a history of seizures, a risk of arrhythmia, renal dysfunction, colonic mucosal ulcers, or vomiting reflex disorders should use this medication with caution. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhea may occur during use, thus it is important to maintain adequate hydration, and in cases of severe vomiting or dehydration, verifying electrolyte status through blood tests is essential. Patients with fluid and electrolyte abnormalities should normalize their condition before administration, and those at risk of seizures or taking certain medications should be particularly cautious. This medication may temporarily increase uric acid levels, so patients with gout should definitely consult a physician before using it. Patients at risk of arrhythmia are recommended to undergo an ECG before the use of this medication, and patients with impaired renal function or those taking medications that may affect renal function should ensure adequate hydration and undergo blood tests. This medication may cause ulcers in the colonic mucosa, so patients with inflammatory bowel disease should exercise caution before use, and those suspected of having gastrointestinal obstruction or perforation should not be administered this medication. When taking this medication, it must be completely dissolved in the specified amount of water; otherwise, there is a higher risk of nausea, vomiting, dehydration, and electrolyte abnormalities. This medication may interact with other drugs, so careful attention is required, especially for patients taking medications with a high risk of fluid or electrolyte abnormalities. For pregnant women, this medication should only be used when the diagnosis's benefit outweighs the risk as its safety for the fetus has not been established, and nursing mothers should use it with caution as well. The safety and effectiveness for children have not been adequately confirmed. Elderly patients may be more susceptible to side effects due to a higher likelihood of impaired liver, kidney, and heart functions. After taking the medication, do not store the remaining solution and consume it immediately; keep it out of reach of children. Transferring to another container may cause a risk of accidents and deterioration in quality.
Vomiting or dehydration symptoms, seizures due to electrolyte abnormalities (hyponatremia, hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia), loss of consciousness, risk of arrhythmia, severe arrhythmias, ischemic colitis, severe edema, urinary disturbances accompanied by increased blood pressure, contraindicated in patients with severe allergic reactions
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
