Caution is advised as overdose of this medication can lead to seizures. This drug should only be used when absolutely necessary in patients with a history of seizures or those at risk of seizures. Long-term use can lead to psychological and physical dependence; thus, it should only be used for a short period under strict supervision in patients with a history of substance abuse or dependence. Using this drug with alcohol or central nervous system depressants increases the risk of severe sedation, respiratory depression, and coma, so co-administration should be avoided or approached with caution. Patients should avoid driving or operating dangerous machinery as drowsiness, dizziness, or nausea may occur during medication use. Due to many possible interactions with other medications that can enhance central nervous system depression, consultation with a physician or pharmacist is essential. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, this medication should not be used due to potential effects on the fetus or newborn.
