Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, control of partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunct therapy for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, regardless of the presence of secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating symptoms of fibromyalgia. It helps improve the discomfort of patients by addressing a variety of neuromuscular-related disorders.
This medication is administered orally in divided doses for the total daily dose, without regard to meals. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150mg per day, which may be increased to 300mg per day after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it may be further escalated up to a maximum daily dose of 600mg at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: The starting dose is 150mg per day, followed by an increase to 300mg per day after one week.
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for pediatric patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, therefore its use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so any mood changes or unusual behaviors that occur during treatment should be reported to a healthcare professional immediately. Those with an allergy to pregabalin or any ingredients in this medication should not take it. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic metabolic disorders should not take this medication. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain after taking this medication, necessitating adjustments to their blood glucose control medication doses. If hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema occur, the use of this medication should be immediately discontinued. Elderly patients may experience increased dizziness or drowsiness when taking this medication, so caution is advised, as there is a risk of falls. Vision may become blurred or there may be changes in eyesight; if these symptoms occur, consultation with a doctor is recommended. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. There is a risk of drug abuse associated with this medication, so patients with a history of substance abuse should exercise special caution and report any unusual behaviors to healthcare professionals. Patients with impaired kidney function should have their dosage adjusted and should follow their doctor's instructions. Caution is required for patients with heart disease when taking this medication. The concurrent use of this medication with opioid analgesics may enhance central nervous system depressant effects, so caution is warranted. Patients with respiratory or neurological disorders, kidney impairments, or the elderly may have a heightened risk of severe respiratory depression and may require dosage adjustments. In early pregnancy, taking this medication may pose risks to the fetus, so pregnant women should not use it, and women of childbearing potential should employ effective contraception while using this medication. Women who are breastfeeding should consider stopping breastfeeding or ceasing the medication, as it may be passed through breast milk and affect the infant. When engaging in activities that require alertness, such as driving or operating machinery, caution is advised as dizziness or drowsiness may occur after taking this medication. If symptoms such as skin rash, fever, or swelling around the lips or eyes develop while taking this medication, it should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. In case of overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness, confusion, depression, and seizures, and blood dialysis may be required if necessary. This medication should be kept out of the reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
