Thioctic acid is used for promoting energy metabolism during severe physical labor and treating inner ear hearing loss due to toxic substances, occupational noise, and conditions such as Leigh syndrome characterized by subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis. If no effect is observed after about 1 month of administration, continuous use is not recommended. Due to these properties, thioctic acid helps in improving specific neurological and inner ear disorders.
