Thioctic acid supplementation; treatment of inner ear hearing loss and Leigh syndrome
Thioctic acid is used for promoting energy metabolism during severe physical labor and treating inner ear hearing loss due to toxic substances, occupational noise, and conditions such as Leigh syndrome characterized by subacute necrotizing encephalomyelitis. If no effect is observed after about 1 month of administration, continuous use is not recommended. Due to these properties, thioctic acid helps in improving specific neurological and inner ear disorders.
Usually, inject 10∼25mg of thioctic acid intravenously once daily in adults. However, adjust the dose as appropriate according to age and symptoms.
This medication is in an ampoule form, and care must be taken when opening the vial as glass fragments may enter. It is especially important to handle it with more caution when used in children or the elderly to ensure safety. A sufficient and accurate frequency investigation of possible side effects has not yet been conducted. However, symptoms such as decreased appetite, nausea, and diarrhea may occur. Skin rashes, headache, dizziness, and palpitations may also appear. Elderly patients may have weakened bodily functions, so special attention is needed to reduce the dosage when using this medication. When administering the injection intravenously, the injection rate should be adjusted slowly to avoid straining the body.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
