Precautions

This medication should not be used in children under 6 years of age. Additionally, this medication contains lactose, so it should not be used in patients with genetic problems such as galactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. This medication contains a pigment named Yellow No. 5, so patients allergic or hypersensitive to this ingredient should use it with caution. During use, neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, fatigue, tingling in the hands and feet, and unsteadiness may occur. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and stomach discomfort may rarely occur. Symptoms such as flushing of the face or shortness of breath may also rarely appear, so caution is necessary. Dryness of the nose may also be experienced. Liver function test values may temporarily increase, so care should be taken regarding liver health. If an allergic reaction such as a skin rash occurs, use should be stopped immediately. Urinary symptoms such as difficulty urinating, hematuria, and increased urination have also been reported rarely. Increase in white blood cell count may also be noted in blood tests, so any unusual symptoms should be reported. Other symptoms such as swelling or menstrual irregularities may also occur. This medication may cause drowsiness, so driving or operating dangerous machinery should be avoided during use. Patients receiving long-term steroid treatment should gradually reduce steroids while taking this medication, and sufficient discussion with healthcare professionals is necessary. When used by patients with bronchial asthma, it should be clearly explained to them that this medication is not for immediate relief of acute attacks. Patients with seasonal allergies should begin taking this medication before the season of symptom exacerbation and continue until the end of the symptom season. Caution is required as alcohol may enhance the sedative effect of the medication. Additionally, caution is needed when taken together with the medication cimetidine. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the benefits outweigh the risks and should take caution as there have been reports of malformations at high doses in animal studies. Breastfeeding women should avoid using this medication if possible as it can be transmitted through breast milk; if it must be used, breastfeeding should be stopped. Safety for use in premature infants, neonates, infants, and young children has not been sufficiently confirmed, so caution is necessary for use. Elderly patients may have decreased bodily function, so special caution regarding dosage adjustment is required. This medication may have a bitter taste, so be aware when taking it. Keep the medication out of reach of children, and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. To maintain quality, do not transfer to another container and take caution to prevent misuse.
