This medication helps to prevent and manage asthma continuously. It is also used to alleviate symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

The usual dosage is 10 mg once daily; for asthma patients, it is taken in the evening. For allergic rhinitis patients, the dosing time is determined based on the patient's condition. Patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis should take 10 mg once daily in the evening. Adults and adolescents over 15 years of age should take Montelukast at a dosage of 10 mg orally once daily.

Precautions

This medication is used to alleviate symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Caution is required as neuropsychiatric symptoms may occur while taking this medication. For example, if symptoms such as restlessness, anxiety, depression, hallucinations, or suicidal thoughts occur, consult a physician immediately. Moreover, this medication contains the artificial sweetener aspartame, and patients with the genetic disorder phenylketonuria should avoid it. This medication contains lactose; therefore, patients with genetic conditions such as lactose intolerance or galactose intolerance should not use it. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, abdominal pain, cough, and rash may occur, so if these symptoms persist, notify your doctor. This medication is not intended to treat acute asthma attacks, so a separate emergency medication is necessary in the event of acute symptoms. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should not use these medications while taking this drug. If pregnant or breastfeeding, consult a physician before taking, and use only when necessary. It is also usable in children and elderly patients, but dosage and precautions should be followed appropriately based on age. In case of overdose, there is no specific antidote; therefore, follow general symptomatic treatment and the doctor's instructions. Finally, keep this medication out of reach of children and avoid transferring it to another container.

Hives, toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, angioedema, acute skin adverse reactions, increased frequency of bleeding, thrombocytopenia, suicidal thoughts and behaviors (including suicide), seizures, difficulty breathing, nosebleeds, liver abnormalities (increased ALT and AST, cholestatic hepatitis, hepatocellular injury, mixed liver damage), severe edema, systemic eosinophilia, Churg-Strauss syndrome, vasculitis, pulmonary symptom worsening
