Thioctic acid supplementation; treatment of inner ear hearing loss and Leigh syndrome
Thioctic acid meets the increased bodily demands during intensive manual labor and is used in the treatment of neurological disorders such as Leigh syndrome. It is also effective for toxic inner ear hearing loss caused by drugs such as streptomycin or kanamycin and for occupational noise-induced inner ear hearing loss. However, if no effects are observed after about one month of administration, it is advisable not to continue the treatment. This medication is primarily used for the treatment of certain neurological and inner ear diseases.
The usual adult dose is 10~25mg of thioctic acid, administered intravenously once daily. Adjust the dose appropriately according to age and symptoms.
This medication is in an ampoule injection form, which means that glass fragments may enter when opening the container. Care must be taken to cut the container carefully to avoid mixing glass fragments into the injection solution. It should be handled more carefully, especially when used for children or the elderly. Using this medication may lead to gastrointestinal symptoms such as decreased appetite, nausea, or diarrhea. Additionally, other side effects such as skin rash, headaches, dizziness, or a sensation of rapid heartbeat may also occur. Elderly individuals may have weakened bodily functions, so precautions such as reducing the dosage should be taken when using this medication. Lastly, when administering this medication intravenously, it is safer to inject slowly rather than rapidly.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication is sensitive to light and should be stored in a container that does not allow light to enter. Additionally, it is important to store it at room temperature between 1 and 30 degrees Celsius to maintain the drug's efficacy.
