Improvement in blood sugar control in type 2 diabetes
This medication is used to assist patients with type 2 diabetes in controlling their blood sugar levels. Taking this medication while adhering to a dietary regimen and exercise can effectively manage blood sugar levels. Glymepiride and Metformin work together to help maintain blood sugar more stably. It plays an important role in diabetes management and enhances the patient's blood sugar control.
This medication is administered 1 to 2 times daily before or with meals. The dosage may be adjusted according to the patient's current treatment regimen, efficacy, and tolerability, with appropriate blood sugar monitoring. Treatment typically starts at a low dosage, and adjustments can be made based on the medications the patient is currently taking and blood sugar levels. In clinical trials, the initial daily dosage was Glymepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride.
This medication can cause severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia, so it should be temporarily discontinued if there is a sudden decline in kidney function or symptoms of dehydration. Especially, patients with poor kidney function, severe liver dysfunction, pregnant or breastfeeding women, and those with acute metabolic acidosis should not take this medication. Patients with a high risk of hypoglycemia, such as those with poor nutritional status or irregular meals, reduced kidney function, or severe liver damage, should take this medication cautiously. Gastrointestinal disturbances (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, etc.) may occur at the beginning of treatment; however, they are mostly temporary and can be reduced by taking the medication with meals. This medication lowers blood sugar, so if symptoms of hypoglycemia (headache, dizziness, trembling, etc.) occur, sugar must be consumed immediately and a doctor should be consulted. Rare complications such as lactic acidosis may occur; if symptoms such as weakness, muscle pain, respiratory distress, or abdominal pain appear, the medication should be stopped immediately and the healthcare provider should be notified. Dosage should be adjusted according to kidney function, and it is important to receive regular kidney function tests. Additionally, there may be interactions with other medications, so all medications currently taken should be reported to healthcare providers, and it is advisable to avoid alcohol. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should not take this medication and should switch to insulin therapy if necessary. Children and the elderly require special attention as the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been sufficiently established.
