This medication is used in patients with hypertension for whom blood pressure control is insufficient with monotherapy alone. Losartan potassium and hydrochlorothiazide work together to effectively lower blood pressure and improve blood pressure control. This helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and complications.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dosage

The usual dosage for this medication is one tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. The hydrochlorothiazide component can cause electrolyte imbalance in the body, so regular blood tests should check sodium, potassium, and other levels. Extra caution is needed, especially when there is dehydration due to vomiting or diarrhea. This medication may interact with other drugs, so if you are currently taking any other medications, you must inform the healthcare provider, and it is advisable not to use potassium supplements or potassium-containing drugs concurrently. Serious side effects

Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema (laryngeal/pharyngeal swelling causing airway obstruction, swelling of face/lips/pharynx/tongue), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), cold sweats, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe symptoms.

Mild side effects

Abdominal pain, swelling, palpitations, back pain, dizziness, cough, sinusitis, upper respiratory tract infection, weakness/fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache, bronchitis, pharyngitis, angioedema (swelling of lips and eyelids and facial rash), chest pain, facial swelling, fever, orthostatic hypotension, fainting, angina, arrhythmia (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), low blood pressure, myocardial infarction, secondary atrioventricular block, loss of appetite, constipation, toothache, and vomiting.

Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
