Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. Furthermore, patients with end-stage renal disease or those on hemodialysis should not use this medication. It should not be administered to infants under 1 year of age, and children under 6 years should use a liquid form instead of tablets. Since this tablet contains lactose, it should not be given to patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with compromised kidney or liver function, as well as the elderly, should use this medication with caution as blood concentrations may increase. This medication may cause central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, and dizziness, and gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea may occur in some patients. Rarely, cardiac arrhythmias, blood-related issues, skin rashes, allergic reactions, blurred vision, liver dysfunction, and kidney dysfunction have been reported. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery that requires concentration. Additionally, taking this medication with alcohol or central nervous system depressants may exacerbate drowsiness or impaired concentration, so it is advisable not to take them together. Patients with epilepsy or a risk of seizures should also be cautious as symptoms may worsen after taking this medication. Children under 12 years of age should follow dosages for which safety has been reviewed compared to adults, and infants under 1 year should not use it. The elderly should start at a low dose and observe for adverse reactions due to potential retention of the medication in their body caused by reduced kidney function. Taking this medication prior to allergy tests may affect test results; thus, it is recommended to discontinue use 3-5 days prior to testing. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, agitation, and restlessness may occur, and there is no specific antidote; symptomatic treatment should be performed.
