Improvement of blood pressure control when monotherapy for hypertension is inadequate
This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.
The standard dosage of this medication is 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Dosages exceeding Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily is not preferable. 1. Initiate treatment with 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks, escalate to a maximum of Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.
There is no experience of use in pediatric patients and adolescents (under 18 years), so this medication is not administered.
This medication can severely harm the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to this medication, severely impaired kidney function, severe liver disease, or pregnant women should not take it. Caution should be exercised when taking this medication in older adults or individuals with diseases such as hypotension, kidney dysfunction, liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, diabetes, or gout, and regular testing is required. This medication lowers blood pressure and may cause dizziness or drowsiness, so care should be taken when driving or operating machinery. As it may affect potassium levels, potassium supplements or potassium-containing medications should not be taken without consulting a physician. It is important to regularly check kidney function and electrolyte status through blood tests while taking this medication. Due to the hydrochlorothiazide component, skin may become sensitive to sunlight, so exposure to sunlight should be avoided, and attention should be paid to ultraviolet protection. This medication can interact with other medications, so it is essential to inform healthcare professionals about any other drugs being taken, especially when combined with diuretics, antihypertensives, lithium, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). In case of overdose, hypotension or arrhythmias may occur, so immediate medical attention is required. This medication is not recommended for use in children and adolescents, as safety and efficacy have not been established. If unusual symptoms or discomfort occur during use, immediately consult a physician or pharmacist.
