Child dose

This medication is used for the treatment of hypertension when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy.

How to take

Adult dose

The standard dosage of this medication is 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily. Dosages exceeding Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg daily is not preferable. 1. Initiate treatment with 1 tablet of Losartan Potassium 50 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once daily, and if blood pressure is not controlled after 3 weeks, escalate to a maximum of Losartan Potassium 100 mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg once daily.

Child dose

There is no experience of use in pediatric patients and adolescents (under 18 years), so this medication is not administered.

Precautions

This medication can severely harm the fetus when taken during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, so it should be discontinued immediately once pregnancy is confirmed. Patients with allergies to this medication, severely impaired kidney function, severe liver disease, or pregnant women should not take it. Serious side effects

  • Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema (swelling of the lips and eyelids and facial rash), angioedema (swelling in the throat that can cause airway obstruction/laryngeal or glottal swelling, swelling of the face/lips/pharynx/tongue)
  • Severe rashes with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of the mouth/eyes (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, exfoliative dermatitis)
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, respiratory distress, asthma attacks, cough + fever

Mild side effects

  • Systemic: Abdominal pain, weakness, fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, headache
  • Cardiovascular: Palpitations, arrhythmias (atrial fibrillation, sinus bradycardia, tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation), hypotension, myocardial infarction, secondary AV block
  • Gastrointestinal: Loss of appetite, constipation, toothache, dry mouth, dyspepsia, flatulence, gastritis, vomiting
  • Neurosensory: Anxiety, anxiety disorders, ataxia, confusion, depression, nightmares, sensory impairment, insomnia, decreased libido, memory impairment, paresthesia

Storage

This medication is sensitive to light, so it should be stored in a container that does not allow light to enter. Additionally, it should be stored at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. This will help maintain the medication's efficacy.
