Precautions

This drug, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is used to treat various bacterial infections. However, it can cause serious side effects such as tendinitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, central nervous system disorders, and exacerbation of myasthenia gravis. If such symptoms arise, administration should be immediately discontinued, and it should not be used in patients with myasthenia gravis. When administered as an injection, it should be infused slowly over a period of time, and if there is a sudden drop in blood pressure during infusion, it should be stopped immediately. This drug requires caution in elderly patients, those with renal impairment, and when used in combination with steroids, as the risk of tendon rupture is increased. Moreover, it may increase the risk of seizures, so it should be used with caution in patients with epilepsy or central nervous system disorders. Allergic reactions can manifest as skin rashes, hives, or difficulty breathing; if these symptoms occur, administration should be discontinued. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, and there have been rare reports of hypoglycemia, hepatitis, and kidney function abnormalities. Neurological side effects such as dizziness, anxiety, hallucinations, and depression may also occur, so if symptoms are severe, consultation with a physician is necessary. Cardiac side effects such as tachycardia, hypotension, and QT interval prolongation may occur, so patients with heart disease should exercise caution. This drug is not to be used in pregnant or nursing women or in adolescents under the age of 18. Additionally, there may be interactions with certain medications, so any other medications the patient is taking must be disclosed. When using this drug, excessive exposure to sunlight should be avoided, and caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. In the event of overdose, central nervous system symptoms and cardiac abnormalities may occur, so immediate medical attention is necessary. This drug should be stored protected from light in a sealed container to prevent air infiltration, and must be administered as soon as possible after opening.
