Reduction of the risk of cardiovascular diseases and improvement of hyperlipidemia
This medication is effective in reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers the risk of mortality from heart disease and events such as myocardial infarction and stroke in adult patients with a history of coronary heart disease, diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, or stroke. Additionally, it reduces the risk of complications after vascular surgeries. In hyperlipidemia patients, it decreases total cholesterol and bad LDL cholesterol levels while increasing good HDL cholesterol levels, thereby improving blood lipid concentrations. It is particularly used as an adjunctive treatment for familial hypercholesterolemia or mixed dyslipidemia and can be applied to children with familial hypercholesterolemia. This medication is used to maintain cardiovascular health and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
1. Adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular disease: Administer 40 mg of Simvastatin daily. 2. Adult patients with hyperlipidemia: The usual starting dose is 20 mg once daily in the evening. Mild to moderate patients may start with 10 mg. 3. General dosage range: Administer 5-40 mg once daily in the evening and adjust the dosage based on treatment goals and patient response. 4. Patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia: 1 daily.
For children with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (ages 10-17): Administer 10 mg once daily in the evening. Recommended dosage range is 10-40 mg per day with a maximum dose of 40 mg.
