Improvement of hypertension and angina
Hypertension and angina are representative diseases among cardiovascular diseases, and this medication is used to control blood pressure and improve blood flow to the heart.
Hypertension: The initial dose for adults is Atenolol 50mg once daily, either alone or taken orally in combination with a diuretic (thiazide type), and if no effect is seen within 1-2 weeks, increase to 100mg once daily. Do not exceed 100mg daily. Angina: Administer 100mg in divided doses 1-2 times a day, and do not exceed 100mg daily. For patients with renal impairment: Creatinine clearance 15-30 mL/min: 50mg once daily; <15 mL/min: 25mg once daily or 50mg every other day; Adjust as suitable based on age and symptoms.
This medicine should not be used by individuals who have allergic reactions to the main ingredients or additives. Patients with severe respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should not take this medicine as it may worsen their symptoms. It should also be avoided in patients with diabetes who have poor blood sugar control or those in a state of metabolic acidosis. This medicine can be dangerous for patients with very slow heart rates (bradycardia), patients with heart conduction disorders, and those in cardiogenic shock. Patients with right heart failure due to congestive heart failure or pulmonary hypertension may also experience worsening symptoms if taking this medicine and caution is required. It is safest not to administer to patients with severe hypotension or peripheral circulation disorders. This medicine is also unsuitable for patients with thyroid dysfunction who may be at risk of developing thyroid toxicity or those with untreated pheochromocytoma. Patients with lactose intolerance or related genetic metabolic disorders should avoid taking this medicine due to the lactose content. Patients with bronchial asthma or those susceptible to bronchospasms should use this medicine with caution in conjunction with bronchodilators under medical supervision. Patients at risk for heart failure should be administered this medicine carefully following a physician's direction. Patients with diabetes who may experience hypoglycemia or those on a long-term restricted diet should frequently monitor their blood sugar levels while taking this medication. Patients with severely impaired liver or kidney function may be affected in the excretion and metabolism of this medicine, thus requiring dosage adjustment. Elderly patients should start at a low dose and gradually increase while monitoring their condition. If allergic symptoms such as rash, itching, or hives occur during treatment, the medication should be immediately discontinued. Dry eyes, reduced tear production, blurred vision, or any discomfort should be discussed with a healthcare professional. Cardiac-related side effects may include decreased heart rate, hypotension, and chest tightness, and dosage adjustment may be necessary if symptoms are severe. Neurological symptoms such as changes in mood, headache, dizziness, and insomnia have also been reported and should be approached with caution. Gastrointestinal side effects may include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Potential respiratory effects may cause wheezing or difficulty breathing, requiring prompt notification to healthcare professionals. Regular liver function tests are needed as signs of liver dysfunction may occur. This medicine is excreted through the kidneys, so dosage should be adjusted for patients with compromised kidney function. This medicine may interact with various drugs, so it's crucial to inform healthcare professionals of any other medications being taken. Particularly when used with other antihypertensives, diabetes medications, calcium channel blockers, or antiarrhythmics, the risk of side effects may increase. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully consider this medication's use as it may affect the fetus. For breastfeeding women, as this medicine may be passed into breast milk, they should either discontinue breastfeeding or consult with a physician before making a decision. The safety in pediatric patients has not been adequately established, so its use is not recommended except in specific cases. In cases of overdose, severe heart problems, hypotension, and bronchospasms can occur, requiring immediate hospital treatment. This medicine should be stored out of reach of children and should not be kept at temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the container should not be changed, and it should be stored in its original packaging to maintain quality.
