This medication is used for seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and skin pruritus. It is also used in conjunction with hydrocortisone topical agents to help relieve symptoms in the treatment of eczema and dermatitis. This drug effectively improves the symptoms of various allergic and skin disorders.
Adults and children over 6 years old are given 10 mg of cetirizine hydrochloride orally once daily before bedtime. For patients sensitive to side effects, it is recommended to split the dose into 5 mg each in the morning and evening. For patients with renal impairment, dosage and intervals should be adjusted according to the creatinine clearance. This medication can cause various side effects, such as drowsiness, dizziness, headache, dyspepsia, skin rash, etc., so it should be monitored if symptoms appear. In case of drug overdose, symptoms like confusion, drowsiness, rapid heartbeat, and poor urine output may occur, requiring immediate treatment. It is advisable to discontinue this medication prior to allergy testing, and caution should be taken when driving or operating machinery.
